Have had 3 raging migraines in 2 months. Never had any before. Talked to every Dr. I have. (Neurologist, allergist, internal medicine.) Finally talked to GYN. "Oh," her nurse said. "You have a drop in estrogen." (I'm 48, can we say menopause?) We will call you in a script tomorrow." I HATE HORMONES!!!!! I know we all need them but they can play such havoc with your life. I missed 2 weeks work because of a migraine and a spinal tap and complications from the spinal tap at the end of July. I have had just enough of a headache for the last week to be annoying. I am an anxiously awaiting the arrival of the hormones. Anything to get rid of this pain!!!! Anyone else have "Menopausal Migraines"?

Sweety!! I believe that the menopause is known as "the second puberty" and I think there are very good reasons for that!! As if ONE puberty wasn't enough to go through ... and when you have ONE going through their FIRST puberty in a house added to the mother going through her SECOND puberty I am certain it can cause all sorts of havoc!! I haven't actually got there yet ... but can't be too far away ... I am sending you lots of for now ... and you can send them my way when its my turn!! ;D

Well actually Linda, I am very familiar with the pain of migraines. Although not hormonal related, they were terrible. I hope the medicine helps. I was not allowed to take any meds for them and it was a very rough 7 years of my life. I literally could not function. The lights would hurt my eyes, I could not focus. Trying to focus would cause me to get dizzy and then came the vomiting as a result of that. It was like being on a spinning ride for 24 hours. I would tough it out at school as best I could, then come home and sleep with a pillow over my head until it passed. That happened once a week for 7 years, then they just stopped. No wonder I was so skinny through school. Sometimes I thought that smashing my head with a hammer would feel better. Ohhh I can relate. Miles

I haven't made it to the menopausal migraine - yet - I do get hormonal migraines every month. Here I was looking forward to menopause... My thoughts exactly... I keep hoping for menopause... It's funny, because how many months I hoped for being "late" and now I hope for nothing! ;D My migraines have landed me unconscious in the ER at least 3 times in the last 6 years. The pain gets so bad, I think to myself, "I feel like I am going to die, and I am afraid I won't" Puberty the first time around was pretty much a non-issue for me, but then again I had the joy of starting at the ripe old age of 9. Not a typo... NINE. So, it has been with me almost as far back as I can remember. The headaches started in junior high, but have really taken over my life in the last 5 years. I think by the age of 40 (next month) I deserve to experience my second puberty. ;D

I have been having hormone-related headaches more and more the past few years. I don't know that they are migraines, but a migraine med (Axert) is the only thing I've found that helps. Unfortunately it is also very expensive ($187 for ten tablets!) I'm glad I can get them for ONLY $87!

For migraines, try 5-HTP, 200mg taken 3 times a day, for a total of 600mg daily. A month's worth should cost you around $20. Clinical tests found this to be as effective as methysergide and several other prescription migraine prevention meds, but somewhat less effective than propranolol. (5-HTP reportedly doesn't benefit children's migraines at all, though.)
I used to get migraines every month, so I know they're truly awful. Mine stopped during my first pregnancy and have never returned, thank goodness...though the children are responsible for plenty of headaches all their own.

The only time I get headaches is when I am dehydrated, thank goodness I don't get migranes, at least I don't think I do Kaiti ... From what I have heard from migraine sufferers you would definitely KNOW if you did get migraines!! I am also lucky enough not to have had them ... I do get a mild headache occasionally but so mild and so occasionally that a pain killer quickly puts it in its place ...
