I finally signed up for FLYlady and I think it is great. My sink is shiney and everything. I told DH and he is even helping. He is being much more concious of where he puts things like his dirty dishes. I made an announcement yesterday that he has 24 hours to put everything he really wants to keep away or find a home for it or else it is fair game for my 27 thingy. I hope I can keep with this I think it is just one more piece on my road to organization to in my life. Hopefully I do not have a huge snowstorm and the whole darn road gets blocked!!

Hooray! It is certainly helping my life. I am still in baby steps mode myself. But as I sit here typing - my sneakers are on, the downstairs looks fabulous, and the sink is oh so shiny! I still have to work on the laundry which is now all piled up in my bedroom. But the kids rooms are clean. It is a matter of the laundry and a little bit of clutter left! And making sure what is now clean - stays clean!
Good luck Honeysmom!

Fly Lady helps organize those of us who are cleaning and organizationally challenged! My mom sent me the book to "help" me out. I love her philosophy and she has awsome tips to help us all get it together! One of her imortant things is to have you wear lace up shoes in the house - and by golly - it works! Fly Lady

Go to www.flylady.netEvery day she will e-mail you with motivation and a list of short tasks that will help you find the floors, shelves, and closets of your house, 15 minutes at a time. Remember, "I can do anything for 15 minutes" and before you know it you can really FLY (finally love yourself! and your house). I have to admit, I cheated. Instead of shining my sink clean the first time, I went to Sears hardware and bought a brand new basin! It REALLY shines! I have chosen to FLY one room at a time. My closets are comfort zones for the old clutter bug in me. But we love the clean kitchen and tidy living room. I can see my desk top for the first time in 17 years, so it does work, little at a time! Come fly with us, Marja, it is almost better than a virtual vacation, only none of those statues!!! Laurie

That's why I have the book. I was afraid that I would get so bogged down by the emails I wouldn't get much done.
The shoes and sink thing helped so much! My suggestion is to make a list like she suggests - starting off SMALL (yes, that is the key - we do get burned out fast). The timer thing works great (that's how I got my idea for DS's routine). I bought ALOT of garbage bags, tons of new sponges, rags and a couple of boxes of those disposable scrubbies. TIP - those magic sponge things are GREAT for cleaning molding. Also I bought some stainless steel cleaner - which made a huge difference on the sink. She's right - once my sink was shiny I really didn't want it getting messed up again. It kind of was like that for everything. I have a HARD time with clutter. I got a box and started going through the clutter. I would start off with a pile - throwing things out and putting things I wanted to keep in a box. A little later I would go through the box and try and find a home for that which I decided to keep. Part of my clutter problem is that I don't necessarily have a home for important paperwork etc. And have I been going through the toys - if the kids haven't touched something in about three months - out it goes. OH - and you may need to schedule some "blocks" of time in for the internet. Set the timer and give yourself a half hour at different times of the day so you don't overdue it. I have the same problem. I get caught up on the internet and the next thing you know . . .

I had a really hard time getting motivated, but then I thought, I gotta do it sometime.
Shining the sink really does work. I refuse to let anything sit in it. And you should see how it shines! Now keep in mind that I have a beautiful pumpkin orange sink. It is like a giant glowing pumpkin. Good God I never realized how hideous it was. I think I need to follow Laurie and just get a new one.
Catseye, it is easy to start b/c they way she eases you into it. I really like her line about not being behind, just jump in. Becky

Becky, my whole kitchen was alvacado green. I had to gut the whole room, and was just about done remodeling when I discovered Flying. So I only sort of cheated! It is easy to keep the kitchen clean because it was my design, my hard labor that built the new room. I hung the cabinets, I installed the counter tops, the sink, and I tiled the floor! But I still haven't put all the darn boxed items back into the cabinets. While I was designing the kitchen, I doubled the cabinet space for all my clutter. Now I don't want that junk in my beautiful room!
CATSEYE... I signed up for the digest version of the e-mails. Now I only get 1 or 2 a day, and each one has 20 +/- mailings combined. I just scroll through the list to remind me what I haven't done yet. Then, the trick is to delete the mailing, because if you don't jump up to take care of the message now, you won't do it later either!
EACCAE... Which book did you get? I have an old version of the Pam and Peggy's book that had me organize my day using an index card box. Same idea of little chunks of work, but each on an index card. I found the book while I was flinging under my bed! I really like having the hard copy to go with my daily e-mail. It gives me a handy reference when I feel like tackling something that isn't in my control journal.
And my 13 yr. old came up with another use of CHAOS (can't hold any other s***, meaning the house is over full of stuff.
Then my DH informed me this evening that I have until 7 pm Saturday to finish off the FLYing, because he invited all the new neighbors over for the evening. This includes the next door couple with their 1 yr. old and 3 yr. old, so I have to child proof too. All these little LEGO parts... PRAY for me girls. 44 hours to shine.
