hi all,
thought i'd return and give my take on homeopathy to those interested.
there's a decent description of homeopathy in the doctors office section. you'll get the gist of the basics and how it works.
homeopathy has essentially changed my son's life. he is no longer hyperactive, impulsive or suffers from concentration problems. he is able to sit and focus, getting his schoolwork done. this is all according to his teacher who also added, "whatever you're doing, keep doing it!"
i don't have info. on placebos, or other scientific tests done to prove that homeopathy works. i don't need them as i have living proof.
i don't think it's fair to condemn an alternative because you have had a bad experience. maybe someone else has benefiited. who's to say who is "more" right? what happened to the "acceptance" aspect here?
there are many who do not find meds helpful. others who tried the supplements with no real results. what about chiropractors, accupuncture?? yet there are others who have had great success with these.
people should be allowed to decide for themselves. i tried almost all of these with no good resullts. then i tried homeopathy. it works!!
i'm only trying to reach out to those who want to try something besides the supplements or who are not finding the success they'd hoped to.
if you'd like to hear more specifics on my son's journey using homeopathy, i'm happy to respond. but again, i'll not enter into a debate!
sorry this is so long, but hey, it needed to be!

Please share with use what you have experienced with your homeopathy.

Yes, I'd like to hear about your son's journey. I think what works for one family, may very well be different from works for another family. And you are right, the mission at this site is for acceptance and support.

That's great that your son is doing better! After all is said and done, THAT's the thing that really matters. I know of other people who have had great success with homeopathy as well. Thanks for sharing!

thanks all for the support on this!! i looked into homeopathy for my, then 7 yo son, after having a bad experience with the stim. meds. i did google searches on it and read till all hours of the night. we initially went to a homeopath in our area. long story short, we are now working with a classical homeopath. if we had stayed with the original one, i think we would have given up, thinking homeopathy didn't work. unlike conventional medicine where ritalin 10mg is prescribed for all (so to speak) homeopathy looks at each individual characteristic, then prescribes a remedy. that remedy is taken, usually once, then waiting and watching for signs of improvement begins! it's not a quick fix, though i just met someone who's son has had incredible success within weeks of taking a remedy. sometimes it takes awhile to find the right remedy. we started at the end of april and for maybe 2 or so months, my son has not been hyperactive. his other improvements have been more gradual but steady. i was in his classroom yesterday and was almost in tears as i watched him sit, focus and not fidget!!! his teacher reports he is doing well and had no idea he ADHD! he still has a ways to go but i am confident that this was the right thing to do. this is getting really long, so i'll sign off for now. i'm happy to answer questions from anyone who wants to know about our experience. it may not be for everyone, but it works for my son. kppy

What was the particular remedy that you found so successful for his hyperactivity?

ohmama,
my son has been on a total of 5 remedies. he started on saccarum and has been on carcinosin, sulphur, nux and is currently on stramonium. each time he changed (grew or outgrew a behavior) the remedy changed.
here's an example; when we started all this, one of the problems (besides the adhd stuff) was his constant sugar cravings and then the whacky behavior that followed after eating it. i think two doses (one at a time) of saccarum removed this craving. he likes his sweets but not in a crazy, obsessed way!
he went thru a period of night terrors (really bad ones!) recently. the stramonium has taken care of this.
earlier we addressed the concentration/attention with (i think) sulphur and then nux.
currently the things that are improving are his speech, as in when speaking, he used to "loose' the word he was thinking of. this has gotten so much better since we started. auditory processing, still a problem for him but not like it was.
there's so much that has gotten better, and not really attributable to just one remedy. my homeopath likens the whole healing process to the layers of an onion.
i hope i've answered your question.

Kppy3, I am SOOOOOOO glad it is working for you, thank you for sharing.
Can I ask, what made you change Homeopaths?

the first homeopath gave two remedies to be taken on different days.
i did a ton of reading on these remedies but could not figure why she precribed them. i found a homeopathy forum and started reading there. after a week or so, i posted a question about these two remedies.
what i found out was that this homeopath was "mixing" remedies- a no no in classical homeopathy. i learned a tremendous amount from these folks and ended up working with a classical homeopath (who i think is wonderful!)
classical homeopathy prescribes one remedy at a time then waits to see what happens.
hope i answered your question roseyred! kppy

Yes, thank you. SO that way you can tell specifically what is working. I understand now. Thanks

kppy, Would that nux be nux vomica? I have used this successfully for the symptoms of a cold.
The stramonium was very interesting, for a while I almost thought it was working for the adhd.
You may find the sulphur works well for canker sores, diaper rash, hemmorrhoids, and pinkeye among other things. In a 30C potency.
Isn't it amazing what this works for?

roseyred, yep that's right!!
ohmama,
yes, homeopathy always amazes me. one remedy can work for many different problems, but only when it fits the picture.
all of the remedies i listed were used for his "chronic" condition at different times, for different problems.
his current, stramonium, would not have worked as the first remedy back when we started. none of the remedies "cued" him entirely. they removed problems, one layer at a time.
he's had several acute problems treated by our homeopath. fevers, vomitting, colds, swollen glands. all resolved without a trip to the doctors or any other medicines. amazing to me as we were at the doctors so often last year with summer colds always leading to fluid in his ears then an infection would develop.
i work with my homeopath now to treat my family for the acute stuff. i have several reference books that allow me to figure some of these out on my own-but i always check with her to see if i'm on the right track!

ohmama,
you said stramonium was "interesting". i take it your child was prescribed it at one point. was it the only remedy that was tried? if not, what else was tried? you saw no changes then?
just curious as my son was on a remedy that i think did absolutely nothing for him (well, maybe i just didn't see it at the time!)

I believe very strongly in homeopathy, it is allot of work though. I have many books. In classic homeopathy different remedies are for different types of people so what works for one will not work for another. For instance Nux vomica for me can cure just about whatever ails me, headache, insomnia, cold symtoms, it just seems to put my body back in balance. I even carry a little vial of it in my purse. Good luck and keep up the good work, I know it can be exhausting and also addictive. Homeopathy has endless information and it can get overwhelming. I have a kit of the most poluar 18 remedies and keep to it or it gets just too complicated. You all know right to never touch the pills put them directly from the vial into your mouth. Also they should not touch metal, plastic, etc... it is Ok to wrap them in a piece of paper or an envelope if you want to take them with you.
