"At this point the plan is to stablilze the temporal lobes and then treat the anxiety and adhd. I think we have the lobes stable now."
ohmama,
how was this done??
my son was on paxil for 9 months. he suffered from anxiety and refused to go to school. after looking at the benefits compared to the trauma, i homeschooled the remainder of that year.
i agree that heart and brain need attention and support for healing and would add that the "soul" also needs to be included. now, we've got some real leverage against this adhd thing! i'm not just talking religion here but spirtuality!!
it's ALWAYS one day at a time at my house.

oh, and i agree there needs to be a better way to diagnose adhd.
i think there should be a "standard" evaluation that includes a team approach. ( ped., m.d, psych, teacher, sp/lang, ot.) depending on what the referring professional or parent have concerns about. some kids appear to have no academic difficulties and others struggle with the work.
if we had multidisciplinary teams doing evals. on these kids, think of the wealth of info. we could gather in terms of strength, weakness and for developing a specific academic plan. in the end it would save time, in my opinion. i'm a "retired" sp.ed. teacher with a passion for bucking the system- well only if the system isn't working, which it's not around here at least.

Oh Kppy, it isn't working around here either. Apparently the schools here think all of the problems are for home to deal with, all they do is disipline, not try to chnage themselves------that would mean they were :owrong Anyhow, there's another vent I need to stop, I think I'll have one in the ed. section if you want to hope on over there

Kppy, The medication to stabilize the temporal lobes that we used was Depakote. This is an anticonvulsant commonly used in treating seizure disorders such as epilepsy. There are other mood stabilizers usefull for this purpose also. There is a lot of good information on the brain functions and natural alternatives or medication for treatment that is useful by taking the brainsystem checklist test on www.brainplace.com
