I really don't understand him !! ... Ever since we bought him a junior fishing rod at age 7-8 he has been "hooked" 100% ... He is completely and utterly NUTS about fishing!! ... Last weekend he went out for 48 hours with a friend ... Last night his fishing buddies (who incidentally seem as hooked as he is!) were not able to go fishing but he was and he went out ON HIS OWN ... in a tent ... all night at the edge of a fishing lake !! ... Sam was lucky because he met a fellow-fishing-nut ... age 21 in a neighbouring tent who said "My Mum thinks I am crazy!" .... This guy had a week's holiday from work and had spent SEVEN NIGHTS in his tent on the edge of the lake!! ... He and Sam spent a lot of the night exchanging stories (fishing no doubt!) .... To prove my point here are a couple of pictures of Sam taken LAST weekend when he went with his friend Dan ...

Not all fish is yucky... but the kind he has in that picture is! My dh calls them "bugle lips". lol Anne, don't feel alone there on the fishing wonder. As you and I have talked about on many occasions, Andy is just as crazy with it! Believe it or not though, he didn't tkae his fishing gear this past weekend. He said with family coming and it being a holiday, he was concentrating on us. He did bring the boat, which is a bass fishing boat, but only for us to ride in. I did get some pictures though of the lake, the boat, our camper, and the views of the lake from the camper and a view of the camper from the lake. This is a very massive "lake" as they call it. It is actually a branch off of the river and the lake was man-made back in the early 70's when they let the d**n loose. I will email them for you to show Sam when I get them developed. He'll be begging you to let him come to the states! lol

I'm just not a fish eating person. One of my kids loves it though.
Oh, and since he likes fish, did you all hear about the 124 lb catfish that some guy caught in the MO river not too long ago? The fish ended up dying in transit to Kansas City, but man was it huge.

Consider yourself lucky Anne....I am willing to bet that Sam loves to fish because of the solitude and quiet. Paul does the same darn thing...he says it is quiet time and it is stress free.

Don't worry Kurs !! These are NOT edible fish ... these ones (Carp) get "put back in the lake" to continue with their lives after the weighing and the photos etc...
Christy we just HAVE to get Andy and Sam together !! Can you just IMAGINE it??
kstquilter THANKYOU for your comment about Sam (not the fish !! LOL) ... and I can see how brittany's dancing AND your quilt making can be just as "all consuming" ... this is a very good "analogy" (is that the right word?) ...
& Linda yes ... ! Sam often comments when he arrives at a lake "ahhh perfect .... its sooo lovely and quiet out here" .... (and yet on the other side of the scale he can be a real "party" boy sometimes too!)

speaking of the 124 lb. catfish... I emailed this link to Anne last week while chatting on IM. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7978360/Not to sound like I'm bragging, but we've got catfish this big in our Chattahoochee. There have been times when we have had divers near the bottom of one of the d**ns working that have literally been spooked at the site of them. They have said there are some " Down there" bigger then they are! Anne, maybe Sam and Andy can catch one one day!

christy, i bet you're talking about lake lanier?? when we were getting ready to move down there, everyone talked about this huge lake down there. but we all lived close to lake MI so no comparison! we also had lots of people who lived on small lakes and rivers and couldn't afford it down there. i'd also have to agree that fishing isn't bad compared to the extreme stuff and other things. karen

First of all Anne your Sam is a very handsome boy (opps I mean young man hehehe) Second of all I wonder if most boys who have adhd LOVE fishing?? Levi wants a fishing boat so bad. He even buys the boat/RV swapper books. Everytime he sees a boat for sale he makes sure to show me and DH. That boy would live on a lake and fish for 7 days also if I would let him ;D ;D ;D

Karen, Lake Lanier is actually in north Georgia, but I am familiar with it. It is near Gainesville, GA and I have an aunt that lived there for many years. The lake I was referring to is Westpoint Lake. www.greatlakesofgeorgia.com/westpoint/ Click on the photo gallery link for some views of it. Notice the camper in the background of the one that shows the men fishing from the boat. We've stayed at that campsite before! The other lake we spend alot of time on in the Spring and Summer months is Lake Harding. It doesn't really have any campgrounds or recreational day use parks on it. The shores of it are mostly residential. EXPENSIVE residential. What I would call mansions. The houses on this lake usually sell for anywhere between half a mill and up! Anne, tell Sam that Andy says even though a big catfish like that would be a good catch, he says it wouldn't be good eating due to it's enormity. Cheryl, tell Levi to keep looking. Andy's second major purchase was his very first bass boat. He bought it at age 18 fresh out of high school. Between it and his first car bought with his mom as cosigner, he was off to a good start at building up good credit. He bought his first boat at 18 and has had one every since. He is 40 now.

I remember YEARS ago reading that "fishing is GOOD for our add/adhd'ers" .... and "how remarkable it is that the kid who cannot sit still in the classroom can sit totally still for hours when he has a fishing rod in his hand" ... Having said THAT however, I do remember dh taking Sam and an adhd friend (with a big H) out fishing many years ago ... the friend unfortunately did not adapt to it well and got in a real muddle with the rod and the line and the reels etc.etc. ... He then got very frustrated and I think that was pretty much the end of his fishing career (the friends) !! So I think the answer to this is both YES .... and NO !! ;D
