Ralph-
That is awesome! I am glad that everyone is giving Brooke a chance. And good luck with the Ped Psychiatrist. I finally found a therapist that I really, really like - but there is a waiting list - go figure!! I hope it all goes well!

Hi Ralph, I've read the whole thread and I am so proud of you for sticking by Brooke and trying again with the other parents. Great work!! I want to put in a good word for therapy. When DD (now 25) was in second grade, her teacher (who did NOT pick up on the ADD--and we had never heard of it!)--recommended therapy for her. At that time she was impulsive, inattentive, and oppositional--a real handful. At times our house felt like a war zone, even though DH and I were very loving and patient with her most of the time. We saw the therapist first, hoping that perhaps she could advise us and we could implement her suggestions--without DD having to see her herself. At the end of the evaluation the therapist (a psychologist) told us things just wouldn't work unless DD came in herself. To make a long story short, after about a year of therapy DD was a different child (and this was BEFORE her diagnosis of ADD, and with NO medicines). She was so much easier to get along with I couldn't believe it.
DS, ADHD, now 20, has been on various medications for a long time, but he also has benefitted tremendously from therapy. So I think Brooke will benefit from it too. I might add that DH had a hard time dealing with the idea that a child of his would need therapy. But he now acknowledges that it has REALLY helped both kids. Good luck with everything! Our hearts are with you!!!

Update
Things still seem to be going well in the cul-de-sac. This morning at the bus stop, things were OK, even though Brooke went running up to one kid to give her a hug and accidently caused her to fall down.
I held my breathe as Brooke helped her up and apologized on her own. The child wasn't hurt and her mom didn't say anything about it.
I cringe when she does stuff like that and I told her afterwards to be careful and not quite so exuberant. I guess that is what makes her so special.

IMHO, we are all devoted to our children, we all just show it in different ways. I'm very demonstrative, my father isn't. But I know he loves me just as much as I love Brooke.
