I'm fairly new to the 504, but I don't believe that can be done legally. ?

He didn't know either. He had gone to the school about another matter, and that is when they told him!!!! They had the meeting a couple of weeks ago.

I may be wrong here but I don't think so.
They CAN'T change anything without your approval.

Okay, I got some more info. about the meeting that they had without me.. Counselor said that they sent home a letter with my son tellling me about the meeting!!! (I did not speak with her, this is through my husband, who tries desperately to be invovled in all this, but he too has fought the battle of ADHD himself) Okay, this is stupid!!! They gave an important letter to my child (and God love him)when my child does good to remember to even wait for me after school (a little exagerated, but not much!!!) This is ridiculous!!! In the past I was given a phone call and then a letter was mailed to me.

Oh, I'm pretty sure they have to notify you by mail. Have you looked at Wrightslaw? Christie

Even if they did try to notify you, they can't change the 504 without your agreement, can they? Don't you have to sign off on it?

I was thinking that I had to sign a form. I have every time before this.. They (teachers) sais that they have seen great improvements so they felt like some of the modifications could be removed.. His grades sure don't reflect great improvements, and he is in the 5th grade reading at a 2nd. grade level. I do not see where modifications should have been removed!!!! AT ALL!!!! I will call the numbers that Dad2 Brooke postd and see what I can get accomplished, but not until after I call and speak with the counselor myself and ask WHY!!!!!!!

Shelly; Good Luck and stand firm... I had this happen with ds8 and I went there and brought a as much info on my childs rights and my rights as his parent to be notified properly. They didn't send you a letter by mail, which they are supposed to do. However, they also can not change a childs modifications without your consent and that has to be signed by you. I have been getting pretty involved in all this and the school should have at least called to set up a specific meeting for you to discuss change of modifications. Also, if you ever don't agree with their recommendations for your child, you have the right to write on the paper that you do not agree with them and then sign. As well as I would ask the Principal why their involvement in the change was lacking, the principal should have stopped any changes until she/he got your consent. Sorry for rambling, Just makes me so upset to know someone else is going thru this as we did. Good Luck. I hope everything works out. Let us know.. Have a peaceful Day, Christina

Hmmm...ask where you signed allowing them to do that? See what they say. It could provide some entertainment.

Okay here is an update on the situation with my son... Dad2Brooke had put a web address for bigsplace.com. I went to that website, found the state that I live in and called the number for the nearest advocate. They in turn gave me a number to my local advocate. I called them and they were shocked that the school expected my ADHD child to remember to give me a piece of paper that was scheduling a meeting. She was also shocked that they would have subtracted modifications when my 5th grade child with dyslexia still reads at a 2nd grade level. I asked her "Why would they do that?? If he is reading at a 2nd grade level, he obivously is going to need help reading instructions on papers, tests, etc..." She was really confused as to why they would do all this. She said that they would give my case to a caseworker, and someone would call me no later than Monday!!! I decided not to call the school regarding this matter, because they definately did not give me that courtesy, so why should I??? I will just tell them that I gave a letter to my child, and expected him to give it to them ;D ;D (I know that is not nice)
