Yes, we have quite a few Texas members here. Make sure you take the proper precautions, everyone!

Hello, everyone. I have a Houston address, but live almost to Galveston in the area called Clear Lake. Unless Rita makes some kind of a drastic turn, we'll be leaving town on Wed. to head to drier ground. We have friends near Ft. Worth, so we'll go stay there till it's all over. Where we live is 14 ft. above sea level, but a Category 3 hurricane will have a storm surge that will take out the bottom half of our two-story. We've only lived here two years, so I've not done this before, but today I spent time gathering the things we shouldn't leave without such as medicines, dog shot records, insurance info., etc. Let's face it, all that's really important is your family......and we'll all leave together.

S/A, and all of our other Texas friends that may be in the path of Rita, please learn from Katrina, get out and be safe if needed. I'll keep you all in my thoughts. Man, hasn't the gulf coast suffered enough?

Take the hard drive of your computer too! Everything else can easily be replaced, but the hard drive has a lot of precious stuff.
I haven't looked yet, but a few years ago when the wildfires were sweeping California, FLYLADY.net had an emegency evacuation check list put together... with CASH, not ATM cards, since they might not always work, meds, feminine stuff if needed, photos, financial records, tax info and of course the pet supplies, a leash and make sure the dog tags are secured tightly. Have your glasses and extra pair of contacts with you too. The family bible if it has important records.
We love you too much to let you take chances. BE SAFE MY DEAR FRIEND. I know it isn't TEXAS, but you are welcome back here anytime. I have a camp trailer in the back yard, and we can leave the boys kicking footballs in the yard while we go get a philly cheese steak at the Whitpain Tavern!
Stay dry and keep the spirits up!
Laurie

Laurie, you're SO sweet. Thanks for the invite!! We'll be leaving (probably tonight) for north TX to a dear friend's home (happens to be the bio grandmother of my son). Don't know how long we'll be there, of course. I'm trying to move everything I can to the upstairs....but it's just stuff and we need to get out and forget it. Unfortunately Galveston will have mandatory evacuation in the morning, so we're going to try to leave before that. I'm taking my laptop, so I hope to be able to get back here sometime soon. I haven't figured out how you stuff 35 years of marriage into one suv....*sigh*. Thanks for all your well-wishes.....if you only knew how I appreciate them!!!

Trid gives some GREAT thoughts and ideas here !! .. The latest I am reading/seeing is that latest reports say it looks like this will impact Corpus Christi the most severely and possibly not quite so greatly the Houston area as originally thought ..?? but then again it goes on to say that apparently this is all somewhat "guess work" at present! ... And ... how far is Corpus Christi from Houston? Oh and I have been to Clear Lake S/A ... and can really remember and see in my own head the general area !! STAY SAFE and TAKE NO CHANCES!!

I hope all goes well for you S/A!! Don't forget to take pictures of your belongings (each room of the house) for insurance purposes.

Anne, Corpus Christi is southwest of Houston, about 220 miles I believe. If my brother had already come home from Iraq that's where he'd be.
I have a step-uncle that lives in the San Antonio area as well as Tim's kids. I know that is far inland but still we all know that even when a hurricane moves inland you still get the heavy rain and wind and tornadoes spawning. Be careful S/A....I'll be praying for ya.
