well, i guess it's our turn for a tropical storm/hurricane tropical storm katrina is making a beeline for miami. it will probably turn into a hurricane before it makes landfall, but hopefully only a category 1. i'm major-stressed b/c i havent had time to prepare for this. it came upon us quickly. i have my emergency supplies, but i havent been able to get the stuff out of the yard so it wont blow around. forget shutters, if we need them , i have boards, but i dont know if there will be time. i have to work tomorrow and we should start feeling the effects by tomorrow noon or after. friday early am is supposed to be the worst part. schools are closed so ds has to go to work with me tomorrow.

Oh my, please be very careful. I, too, am watching Katrina since it very well could swing into the Gulf and I live in Houston. Yikes!! The Gulf has extra warm waters this summer, which is a dangerous thing for a hurricane! Again, please be careful.

I have never been thru a hurricane so I dont know..do people still go to work knowing one is coming and what if it hits while they are at work? Be careful and stay safe...another question..how high in letters has the u.s.a. gotten in the past for hurricanes..havent there been more this year than usual??

m/c, i would say that people with NORMAL jobs dont go to work when a hurricane is coming. i dont have a normal job i work in health care regulation. we license and regulate the hospitals, nursing homes, etc. as you know, these places are all still operating, so we have to work until the very last minute to make sure they are all taken care of. my own house doesnt get taken care of though. the last hurricane we had we were under a hurricane warning, (that means its very close and you need to finish your preparations) and we were still at work! there are more hurricanes predicted this yr than last. it is a very rough yr. i can check the answer for you re the farthest up the alphabet we have gone. i know we got to "opal" one year. i'm pretty sure i heard that in the past we got further than that!! thanks for the good wishes!!

I hope all goes well for you!! I know how panicky it can make a person feel to try to get everything taken care of. According to the forecast track, it looks like it will hit FL 2x.

Take care of yourself. After last year...I really don't like hurricanes. We've got the worst two months ahead of us.

Oh no, not another one.... CNN told me to stay away from the beaches. I am in Wisconsin, no problem here, but that goes for you too all you Florida folks!! Keep safe, Miles
