thank you all for your support and kind wishes. we are ok, but there is so much damage outside i am shocked. i went thru hurricane andrew in this same house and this damage is worse. the sounds and force of the wind last night were much scarier than during andrew. we didnt have boards on the windows so i put a mattress on the kitchen floor where there are no windows. fortunately ds slept through the whole thing. power still keeps flickering, but there are 700,000 plus people with no power in my county, so we are very fortunate to have power at all. a tree fell on my car but, knock wood, there doesnt appear to be a lot of damage. i cant get the tree away to really assess it. a huge tree fell and blocked my front gate so i couldnt get out without breaking off branches and plowing my way through. the streets are not passable, too many trees and power lines down. what really worries me is that it may head back up to the panhandle toward skay's area and i hope so much that it stays the heck away from there. thanks again for your great thoughts, you are all so special to me!

I am sooooo glad to hear from you Amsmom! I was just reading an article talking about the damage there and hoped like heck you were ok. Trees can be cut up and moved, cars repaired or replaced...you my friend can't be, nor that sweet son of yours.
Now, yes, it is time to turn our focus onto Skay and the hurricane weary panhandle. I like you hope it doesn't hit there, but unfortunately the cold front we have waited on so long has arrived and is sucking it right up.
Take care and be careful out there!

Amsmom, I am sooo glad to hear you are ok! And that's great that you still have power!!! That's one of the most frustrating things after these storms: no air conditioning, no refrigeration, can't do laundry or cook, and of course the worst--no computer! I hope your car really is ok and that clean goes will for you. If people offer to help you, make sure you let them, and if they don't (shame on them), be sure to ASK. There are several places to contact: FEMA, Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc. as I am sure you are well aware. This hurricane stuff is getting old! When I saw earlier that the storm was forecast to hit FL 2x, the projected path was well east of here. Now the path is possibly west of here (actually about where Dennis was projected earlier this summer; Dennis ended up just east of here). One good thing is that this storm is compact so wherever it does hit, it will be over in a short time. I did get some water and a little food today. I hope we have enough supplies now.

LOL I sure don't feel like I know enough. Thanks though!
Yes, something went different from their predictions because after Katrina went through your area, they had to totally change the projected path. This just shows that the weather forecasters really don't know what is going to happen--they are just issuing educated guesses. These storms can be pretty unpredictable.
It looks like this one is going to miss us!! The last few tropical storms/hurricanes that have hit the US have come to our area so it feels kinda strange not to be getting this one. I guess we will get some wind and rain but probably not enough to cancel things.
