Blue, I thought being in a state that produces oil gas prices would be pretty cheap. Then again, it gets shipped to the mainland, trucked to refinaries, put back on trucks and trains back to the coast shipped back up, trucked back, etc. Sounds like you have a blast with your truck!! There is just something about a woman in a pick up truck. Sorry, had the Alan Jackson song going through my head, just changed the gender. Miles

Alot of the oil refineries and rigs were damaged by Katrina, all had to be shut down to evacuate before she struck. This is what is driving up the prices again. I saw yesterday just a few hours after she made landfall the price of oil had already hit 70.00 a barrel and it is expected to get worse. My dh said he heard that it could rise as much as 40 cents per gallon by next week.

They put the number for the states consumer fraud department on the news this a.m. ..all of a sudden they stopped raising the prices...wander why?? ;D ;D anyway it is still up there but atleast we wont see over 3$ this week...I hope. I have decided in nice enough weather to ride my bike into town on days that I dont have to haul animal water or groceries...we have been cutting back on extra trips to try and save. I mean I have already cut the grocery money down to forty a week...cant go much lower...thank God for gardens.. Bobo has a 12 mile one way drive and he really cant cut it down much more if he wants to work...I hope prices and everything get straightened around before winter.. atleast we have cars and lights and food...they say the devastation form Katrina is huge. We are the lucky ones.

at least we have cars and lights and food...they say the devastation form Katrina is huge. We are the lucky ones. You know I came back to this thread to post that same thing! I just finished watching some fottage of the damage in Mississippi and Louisiana and it is catastrophic. So, if all I have to worry with is paying a little extra to put gas in my car, then so be it. I still have a home to go to when I'm done. Man, the devestation there is heartbreaking. God, be with those that lost everything.

AMEN Christy. We may be incovenienced but at least we have water-- food--lights--and a roof over our heads. You all won't believe what we are paying for gas~~~~yesterday it was 3.99/gal and I will bet it will be close to 5.00 by next week~~~of course this is the last holiday weekend of the summer and I bet many people will stay home. I have to drive 60 mile round trip to go to thearpy and needless to say I canceled today and I will proably do so again next week. As long as I go once a week that will be fine. My dh and I are lucky that we live in the same town we work~~I live 6 blocks from work and dh is less the 1/2 mile (easy walking distance).

PRICE CHECK IN FOR TODAY: $2.98/gal :oI know that seems low to most of you but it is alot here. My heart goes out to all of the families though. It's ashame for the independant dealers to feel teh punch like they are. I feel for the cashiers and pumpers, they get the slack from everyone, like they are changing the signs and pocketing it.....I mean the honest ones :-Xto all of you too, your hearing way too many people complain

I'm afraid to go get gas and grocercies today ???Should we have cherrioes for dinner too But I really do need to at least get the basics. Which means getting gas to be able to get the basics. I do pass right by there either on the way to or home, so thank heaven it isn't out of the way for that. Matter of fact, Mike and I were talking about riding our bikes out to the club sometime. Maybe that will be a weekend project....... ;D ;D ;DNext weekend that is

3.39 here.... ACK!! There have been rumors (I know could be wrong of course) of a possible truckers strike! Since some have to pay for their own gas.... YIKES! That is frightening to me... Not to down play what the people directly affected by katrina are going through, but man this could really do some damage to the economy in the entire US...

Cat, I think it depends on what company you work for as to whether or not they pay for your gas. I know a few truck drivers that do get gas money, or a company credit card, others might have to put out the money up front, but they are reimbursed for it when they get the load off the truck. Well, never mind on the grocery trip, the battery in the Bronco died, so I don't have a vehicle. >:(So it will be slim pickings for dinner I guess we could always do french toast, I actually picked up 2 loaves of bread yesterday at Walmart, just in case......the kids have been on a toast kick since they finished a box of cheerios in 4 days Besides, I GUESS I could sweep the floors or something around here........aaaaannnnnnnnnaaaaaaahhhhhhhh

My brother has a hybrid car and brags that even if the price goes up to $4 a gallon, he will be able to fill his car for $36.

$36, I might be able to half way fill one of the tanks in my truck........disadvantage to having 2 tanks I was talking to a friend last night that drives a rig. He said that owner/operators pay for their own gas......then when I was talking to my husband this morning......went in for some Overtime :Dhe said they were talking about it before they clocked in and it really does look possible for a strike Then again, ya never know with everything that is happening these days
