I was just wondering if anyone has changed the things they do or errands they run because of the price of oil now days. I haven't been working this summer, so it's REALLY been a pain, but we have cut back on meaningless trips to the store a few towns over to get just a couple things. On the down side we bought a boat.....which has been great, even for fraidy cat me, who has dared the water without gills I did seee on the news and had to laugh. They were interviewing this guy that owned a landscaping company. And they asked him if he was charging more because of the prices, and how it was effecting business. He said somthing to the effect that he has to charge a bit more, but if he goes too high, people might......get this......start cutting their own grass again I just had to shake my head......

I had to raise the mowing rates over the price of gas..one of my main customers has now decided that his grass doesnt need mowed ..he called and said the weeds were taking over so I needed to weed .(I took last week off) I asked if it needed mowed and he said no just come weed. Anyway I got there and the grass was a foot tall...this was the weeds that he meant. I think his neighbors could probably see the steam coming out of my ears. Another client has started mowing her own because of it....on the bright side I will have more time for my yard if this attitude keeps up. ;D ;D I have curtailed all trips to town except one per day unless an emergency. I sure hope the prices come down soon..I just got the light bill ..it seems to affect everything from the price of milk to mowing to electrical rates.

We can't have people doing that now, can we? Anyway, there isn't a whole lot we can do at my house since we both work and have different hours. I thought of car pooling but I live near noone I work with, so.....We have cut out our usual summer boating trips though. It's been over a month since we took the boat out and it's been that long since we took the camper anywhere. Just can't afford to with the gas so high. We'll probably suck it up for Labor Day weekend and park them both again for a while. Once it gets cooler and fishing season gets in high gear again it'll kill Andy if gas is still so much! One thing I can say though that it has affected is local businesses. Andy's company, a multi-BILLION dollar one I might add (Viacom) has issed the billposters a gas allowance each month and once it is met they have to park the trucks. Now, with a crane truck they drive along with two more small trucks for posting and them of course driving all over town doing as many as 15 billboards a day it is not hard for them to do sometimes. Since he also does a lot of side work that requires a lot of travel he has had to start including a little gas reimbursement in his prices for long trips. Our school district is even looking into combining a few bus routes that would mean coupling elementary with middle and middle with high school students to cut down on the number of busses used. I know it is affecting businesses that have to rely on gas so therefore you KNOW it's got to be reflected in prices too! Our gas hit it's highest ever here than I can remember in my lifetime at 2.62 a gallon. What's it there?

Actually ..we really cant ... since the main planting season is winding up all there really is is mowing right now and it is the extra money I use to buy meds and pay doctors since Bobo took the big pay cut a few months ago.. HoWEVER...the extra free time for my house and yard will be nice..even if i am broke. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sorry Mothercat, I hope I didn't offend you. We have afew friends that landscape, and Mike was thinking a few years ago about starting one up, but around here, everyone was doing it, and there are only a few of them left. Remember, we resort to scissors here ;D I think the last time we got gas.....yesterday.....it was around $2.42/gal. But the pain of it is that the service center in town can't get gas :-*new policy that he has to pay up front for all of it. Something like $20,000 a tank So we have to go out of town to get gas.....which really bites So we have to make sure we don't run into the red before we notice how low it is. And we can't afford to fill it up, so we are basically in between a rock and a hard place.

We haven't changed things much but we are going too. It is getting rediculous....The gas just keeps going up and up!!! I told Paul....rather a suggestion ;D ;Dthat he needed to charge a little more with his lawn care business and he is considering it.

This is a "pet hate" with me !! ... This article gives an indication of why : freespace.virgin.net/john.cletheroe/uk/petrol.htmThis was written over a year ago and in the meantime our prices have ALSO risen... ... and I won't even get ON to the subject of the price of housing!!

we haven't really changed much. none of us can car pool since we all keep such different schedules and all go in opposite directions. i paid $2.70 this week when i filled up and it's changes rapidly from station to station. we also don't live in Cook county, which is chicago, where they have lots of extra taxes so gas i more there. karen

Well our gas is $2.59 here, the only change we really made is that some of us moms take turns driving our kids to lonestar cheer practice about 30 miles away. We have 8 kids going, so it still takes 2 or 3 cars, but I only drive once a week now instead of 2x a week. We also got a cheaper car for Andy to drive to work 70 miles one way instead of his truck, but that was not because of the gas, the engine on his truck went kaput. So since we needed a vehicle right away, we went with a small car. I also wait untill Amber has her orthodontist appt if I need anything in Abilene, and get it then so I can combine the two trips. The exception was this past weekend when we went shopping for school cloths, but we hit 4 stores in one trip and are now done.
