M'Lady, I was lying in bed listening to news radio and heard. Nothing usually drags me out of bed this early! but I needed to check on you and your loved ones.
I also knew you are not "in the middle of it" geographically, but every one of us is in the middle of this craziness where ever we live.
I thought of Sam and his friends immediately. Our kids are on summer break, so I assume he is too... at their age, their wings are spreading farther from home and they could be London.
GIVE YOUR MEN EXTRA HUGS FROM ALL OF US TONIGHT OR TOMORROW WHEN YOU SEE THEM. My DH was in Alabama on Sept. 11, and I didn't get to see him until Friday night... my heart goes out to you. If I had time and money, I would be by your side tonight.
HUGS! Laurie

Quote from Blair in an article I just read on MSNBC.com: “Whatever they do it is our determination that they will never succeed in destroying what we hold dear in this country and other civilized nations throughout the world,” Blair said. AMEN!!! ... and much as I don't agree with a huge amount (in fact most of!) what Tony B. says as a rule I have to agree that this statement WAS well said!!

It was well said, even from Tony B. I think that´s pretty much it; we as democratic, free countrie´s stand united and fight this terrorism together. I dont have the world´s most powerfull army behind me(as our friend´s in U.S and you in U.K.) but it´s the thought that count´s too....eather we let them win or fight back.

Exactly Linda!! ... Yes I think the US will HAVE to be on a VERY high alert right now !! This wasn't a 'personal' attack against the UK ... this was an attack against Bush, Blair, Chirac and all those others at the G8 summit!! What a horrible world this is sometimes!!

i have to voice the same as all the others have said, glad to hear you're ok anne as is your dh. what we've heard is that it's in reaction to the G8 summit. As to why they did this in london instead of scotland, we got another voice from the UK. i work with a lady who's son lives outside London and goes into the city often. He was on a train heading into london when they started to hear what was happening and he got off the train. started to get a cab into london and decided he may never get home so got back on the train and headed home. he is safe and sound, thank goodness. But to get back to why london, he said that much of the London police force is in Scotland to help with security for the summit. and that many of the london officials, such as the mayor, etc were in singapore for the olympic announcement. those terrorists are such cowards, they probably couldn't get close enough to Scotland so decided on london. i hate to think this may mean our guys will be in iraq longer as well but think they are going to be there a long time anyway. i don't agree with us being there to start with but now that we're there, it seems like we have to stay and finish the job. otherwise, the loss of life and limb will seem like it was for nothing. we also heard that a couple of other countries are supposed to be next if they don't withdraw their troops from iraq. as this terror spreads, maybe it will make the rest of the world stand united against this sort of extremism. the world is a much smaller place than it used to be as this board is a perfect example of. the bad stuff also spreads like wildfire and we must all stand up to the bullies. Big hugs to all who are affected and hope the tragedy isn't too great anne. karen

Hi Karen !! This is a really interesting point you raise here ... and one I personally hadn't thought of ... i.e. that the security around the G8 summit in Scotland is EXTREMELY tight right now (utilising some of the London policeforece) and I am sure its the same in Edinburgh ... that makes sense ... i.e. hit London whilst its at its weakest !! ... The other reason (IMHO) is that London would ALWAYS be the "primary target" in the UK ... it is our capital city and is the "hub" of the whole country ... They wanted to "hit where it hurt" and where better (from their sick point of view!) than a city with a daytime population of something like 15 million people? ... They hit the entire infrastructure of London today - something that NO terrorist has EVER managed before (and lets be honest - London has OFTEN been the target of various terrorists - especially the IRA) ... Gleneagles where the G8 summit is happening is virtually in the middle of "nowhere" ... and Edinburgh the nearest main city is really not large at all by "city" standards ... Beautiful .. YES ... but large? NO !! Thus the "impact" (although horrendous) had they chosen Edinburgh would not anywhere near as affected so many people!! I think it was a combination of the above ...

Anne, I am so glad to hear you and your family are ok. I am sending lots of ++++++++++PRAYERS+++++++++++ and (((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))) to your country and all the people hurt in the attacks. I also believe it was from winning the olympics bid. I was happy for you, and cant imagine what the terroists(?) were trying to prove. I also lost friends in the 9/11 attacks, and can imagine what is going on in your country. Stay strong, you will get thru this, your country will pull together.

vickilyn and cats !! dh arrived home MUCH EARLIER THAN USUAL at 6.00 pm .. he left London at 3.00 - taking a car from the office (as this appeared to be his only possible route out of London!)... Normally the journey by CAR would be just over an hour ... but it took 3 ...which in fact by today's standards isn't "that" bad!! ... Because tonight looking on the tv at the cars driving out of London it is virtually at a "grid-lock" and would have taken many more hours!! Dh said that most mornings he would have been walking RIGHT PAST Liverpool Street Station at about 8.50 a.m. (when the explosion happened there) but this morning he decided to take the "other" walking route which meant he bypassed it !! ...
