and my feelings are hurt. I don't usually get this way but today was not so nice at the school and I left early. Most of you know I volunteer at the school and I usually love it.Today several 5th graders came to me and told me one of the aides told them they didn't have to listen to me because I was JUST a volunteer and she was a paid employee. The aid told the kids they were to listen to her and not me!!!1 This is the same aid who puts her hands on the kids. I told the kids to take the information to the principal This really really stinks

Linda- Don't let that aide (I almost called her something else) on a power trip get to you. Remember that its nice to be important but more important to be nice. (Although I couldnt blame you if you hauled off and socked her in the chops) Go for a nice walk if your weather permits and maybe you can forget about it for awhile. Hope you get back to your usual chipper self soon.

Linda!! I thought I had replied to this but it seems I didn't press the reply button!! I agree completely with what Paul (Songwriter) says .... & from where I am standing it seems that this aide feels you are a threat!! ... and if that is the case she certainly won't be wanting to make life easy for you!! This makes me sooooo mad !! ....

I am one of the few "paid" aides at our school. We have no volunteers to help out. I wish we did. Come to our school, we would gladly put you to work and appreciate you being there.

Linda:
In Puerto Rico we have a saying that I will roughly translate. It goes like this
TO STUPID WORDS, DEAF EARS!!!!
in other words, when someone says something moronic turn a deaf ear.
You are wonderful in what you do. She is just a jeaolus hag who know that she wouldn't come up to your knees if they ever compared her to you.

What kind of an adult tells children they dont have to listen to another adult..she sounds very jealous and immature.. karma will bite her you know where soon..word spreads quick in schools and our schools wouldn't be able to function without volunteers. dont let her bother you Linda . you are terrific

Thank you for your support. I walked out and didn't say anything to the aide. I know I am going to have too. I also feel anger at her and wish I didn't. I got "paid" for the same job at the elem. school Paul went to and I never encountered anyone like her. There were volunteers at this school too and did I ever appreciate it. One thing for sure...she is not going to run me out of there Personally I think she needs to be fired...but her evaluation is coming up and I know for a fact she is not going to like it.

Oh Linda, how unfair! I am a teacher assistant at my youngest dd's elementary school. The pay is small and I often work extra hours for free so I consider myself a volunteer, too.
We have awesome parent volunteers and all of the teachers and TAs are so appreciative of the help they provide.
You are so caring and wise--these kids are well aware of who cares about them. You've been doing this for quite a while and you know the drill. I highly doubt you gave a child bad advice but I suppose something you said conflicted with the employee's wishes. Cheer up--the people who count-- your family and friends value you!

One of the biggest rules in the building is:" Respect and obey all adults" and for the most part the kids do. The principal has had words with the aide before. The aide needs to keep her hands off the kids ...period. The kids come and tell me how mean she is to them when I am not around. I tell them to either tell the principal about it or better yet tell their parents. The aide HAS been talked to..so it is hard for me to understand why she is still there or why she hasn't changed her ways. I didn't do anything to offend her....I am very careful about stepping on toes. There are two other aides there that are very good with the kids and Melissa if you are reading this you are one of them

Well, on the other side of the coin, you know you are at the school because you care. She's collecting a paycheck! I know that doesn't make the pain of her callous words go away, but at least you know you are on the side of virtue! Sounds like a defensive remark on her part. Guess you could take that as a compliment too. You have enough power to make her nervous! Keep up the good work! She keeps getting nervous maybe she'll change her behaviors ! From my standpoint, it looks like you are making a huge impact and a lot of respect is being given to you by the kids. You have found a niche for yourself apparently and you shine in it! Good for you! She sounds like a real pill....the kids will see her true colors in no time anyway.
