I took Jacob back to school after lunch at home and a few of the aides gave me "thumbs up" I knew something was going on but I wasn't sure. I don't know if other places do this but the school supervisor assembles everyone together for a meeting. This happened after I left yesterday...the principal talked to "everyone" so as not to single out the offender even though everyone knows. I will find out what was said and let you know

Linda, there are requirements for community involvement in schools. The school where you work has a campus improvement plan that is supposed to be worked on during the school year. It probably requires the school to strive to enlist people who are doing what you are do. I have turned in aides for several violations over the past twenty years. The reason most of the aides act like this is because they have no investment in the position. They feel like they can get a job for the same amount of money anywhere so thay don't show the professionalism that the teachers do. This is also coupled with the need to fulfill the "I am important because I have authority" playlike person they imagine in their small mind. I had a poster above my desk that said to the students, "Please ask me for help, I work for you." You seem to work for what you can see in the kids. The aide is trying to work out something lacking in her own personality. Think of the ten best moments when you saw how you made a difference with the kids. A hundred aides like her couldn't take that feeling away from you.
Of course you could ask, Are you planning to be a teacher some day? How many hours have you finished so far? Do you know where they keep the campus improvement plan, I want to reed the requirements for the school to enlist and keep community members working in the school.
Politics and psychology what a mix. Might as well have a little fun with it. Keep your chin up. Your tough. George

Not until July here ... END of July for schools ... Beginning of July for colleges.... We are however switching to the 6 TERM year starting in September (getting popular now in the UK) ... this will mean only a 4 week Summer Break ... but will mean having a two week break five times a year and then a 4 week break in the summer ... holidays end up about the same but are differently distributed ... Can't say whether I like it or not until it happens!!

The district I work for has about eight out of 57 total schools that practice that calendar. One high, one middle, and the rest elementary. They go to school for nine weeks, then get off three. They do this three times then get four weeks in summer. School starts first of July, ends at the end of May. So, they do wind up with the exact amount of time off as the regular calendar, just more "evenly distributed" just like you said. They get a vacation in all four seasons. Anyway, for the other calendars, and for Cami's district, school here ends May 20th. Six more weeks!

I went to a year round school, but they had several different "cycles", so every 3 weeks a different set of kids was coming in. Not quite sure how it worked but it did. Even on that schedule we still had 6 weeks off in the summer.
