Some how I forgot this one: ah hem.....My father in law used to take Bruce Willis fishing when he was younger.
And my husband grew up in a house that Bruce grew up in too. And while on our 2 hr honey moon (wow)at the beach, my SIL was walking with our daughter and was waved at by him and Sylvester Stallon(she believes is was Sly)

LitlBaa, Just wanted to say hi neighbor. I am from Fresno. It is hard to think of this town as being alone in accomplishments since this whole valley is so tied together. The best claim to fame is we are from the valley that grows 75% of the produce exported from the USA and Yosemite being just up the hill. A few other tidbits, Clint Eastwood's parents live here, Bubba is our mayor, we have the first franchised McDonald's here and it is still operating, I believe the Manchester Mall was the first indoor mall, a little town about 25 miles from invented the Frito boat, the movie Roadhouse was filmed here (Reedley and the foothills), Jaws from the Bond movies live here, tri-tip was started in this valley.
There is a few scandals in this valley too, unfortunately. Scott Peterson, Chandra Levy, the yosemite tourist murders, and the man who hit and killed James Dean.
There is so much, I can't even remember.

Howdy. I am living in Sierra foothill territory that was once combed over real good by forty-niners. Lots of old mining towns. This neck of the woods didn't get the pressure water stream treatment that tore up a lot of gold country. Still quite pretty and what with the hills and trees you can almost forget you have neighbors if you want.
I grew up all over the south but Louisiana kind of feels like home. Lived in New Orleans for a bit. Still have some family in Slidell. I'm obviously not a true Louisianan though because I just love the French Quarter and Garden District. Have to mosey over to the Cafe Du Monde every time I'm in town. Like to go around 6 am when it's locals and not tourists. About the only reason I can think of for being out and about at 6 am. ;D

This is fun idea!
Well, let me see, where do I begin? I had a project on this WAY back in highschool. let me tip into my memory....
1. I actually live in an unconsolidated "town" called Ellerslie, in Harris County, Ga. I am just down the road from Warm Springs, GA where President Franklin D. Roosevelt built his "Little White House" and came to soak in the warm springs for therapy.
2. Elllerslie is just outside of Columbus, GA where I grew up. Columbus was the home of the inventor of Coca-Cola, Pemberton, who is buried here in an historic cemetary. That's right folks, Coca-Cola was invented here, then taken to Atlanta for marketing.
3. Famous gospel and blues singer "Ma" Rainey retired here and lived until her death. She is also buried here.
4. Alma Thomas, one of the foremost black female painters, whose work is displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, lived in Columbus until age 14.
5. I am only a short drive away from Andersonville, GA which was home to a infamous P.O.W. camp for Union soldiers and now has the nation's P.O.W. museum, and Plains, GA, home to infamous President Jimmy Carter.
6. Last, but not least, we are home to Ft. Benning, Ga. One of the largest military training installments in the country, setting of the true-life movie with Mel Gibson titled, "We Were Soldiers Once" (it was filmed here also), and rich with military history, going back to Civil War days and before.
Plenty of Historical things to do and see here, so if you're ever in Georgia, come by and visit!!

I forgot to put in before. Salem Sounty: I forget the guys name, but wwwwwwwaayyyy back when, when people thought that tomatoes were poisonous, he ate a tomato on the steps of the court house, just to prove that it wasn't poisonous. If I come up with the name, I'll add it later.
And We have Fort Mott and the Salem Oak, which according to the AAA tour book is estimated to be about 5 cerntries old. It did take some damage last year with the winter storms though, it still stands.
Salem County also has COWTOWN!!!!!!!!!!!! Rodeo and Flea market. May-September is Rodeo Time around here. If your ever close to South Jersey, It's right on US Rt 40 off the Delaware Mem. Bridge. It's awsome for being in Jersey.

Greeneville Tennessee, home of Andrew Johnson, his talior shop and home is still standing downtown. Just down the road near Jonsbrough(sp) the oldest town in Tennessee and the birthplace of Davy Crockett who fought in the Alamo which is in my home state of Texas. Also the Battle of Blue Springs happened in this region. The Great Smokey Mountains. Not to be happy about but the Lillywood(sp) murders. That family where all were killed except the baby who is blind as the result of those monsters. From what I hear that happened not too far from where I live. Also one of the most haunted areas if you beleive in that stuff. I am sure there are other things. We also have one of the John Deere plants that makes the mowers for Home Depot. On race weekend hotels are booked from Bristol to Knoxville including our small town that is about 70-80 miles or so away.
I think that is all without waking Scott.

Linda, my "uncle" (dad's army buddy) was a VP for GM, and he lived in Rochester. So that is my guess. But if you do an internet search, you would be amazed the number of cities and towns that claim to be the car capital of the world, from a little town in Iowa to Los Angeles which boasts to have the most vehicles on the road! And then there is Dearborne, MI where I used to hear a Sunday morning show coming from the college there. I wish I knew what it was called and if it still airs. I heard it in Massachusetts, when I lived in the cheese capital of the East!
Find that on the map... we even had a cheese press as the town statue! It was commemorative of the town's gift to one of our nation's President's for his inauguration.
