My 11 year old daughter (Will be 12 in three weeks) and has just started her first period. Is this starting early or is this normal? Thankfully, wifey has already had 'the talk' with her so it didnt freak her out too bad. At what age do young ladies typically start?

well, don't be shy Actually I am waiting for Tara to start anytime now, and she just turned 10. I was 9 when I first started mine, thank goodness I had an aunt that was only a couple years older than me, I asked her about it so I wouldn't have to ask Mom Sounds like you are going to start having some fun times in the house ;Dopps wrong smiley and :(here's a broom for her to practice on, it has training wings on the side that can come off. Back to being serious, just let her know not to be embarrassed, it's a natural thing that has been going on for ages. Good Luck

Girls are starting earlier and earlier...11 is not uncommom. I read somewhere it was because of good nutrition. I was 13 and I think it is still the so called norm. You may be back her talking to us if your dd has PMS

11 is totally normal, although the avaridge is still around 13 as Linda said, but ít´s so personal, it alter´s with everyone. The normal age is from 10 to 15, at least in my book´s, but as said, it´s personal. Good luck Paul, you´re gonna need it ;D

Thanks for the replies. Kaiti- Thanks for the broom but I doubt if d d knows how to operate one! (you ought to see her room!) The other day she cried at a resteraunt when she couldnt sit where she wanted to, and was really embarrassed that she cried so easily (now I understand why)

My advice goes along with every one elses. Hold on, the ride is going to get really wild for a few years (thank God I have all sons ) I have said it before... but it bears repeating. Kids don't want "sexual education" at this age. My DS 10 admits, he needs to know why he is getting hair in "wierd places" and why he has smelly underarms. They want puberty education, it is what they need! Talk to her about upcoming physical changes, and forget the "feeling all goofy when I talk to a guy" talk for now. She needs to know that she isn't dying because she is "getting fat in the chest"! WE all survived despite OUR parents awkward feelings, and she will too!

Trid- The talk wifey had with her was a 'physical changes' talk, not a 'sex ed talk'. I spoke with d d last night, saying that I am proud of how she is blossoming into a beautiful young lady. I asked her if this is freaking her out and she said, " no, I just want this to be over". Wifey says d d is tired of all the laundry associated with it. (Arent you glad I spared the details?!)

Cami just started hers a few months ago. She was started to freak that she hadn't because most of her friends had started looong ago. I think 1s is about the norm now. I was 12 when mine hit many moons ago. Just help her to remember now to always have a little something on hand (does she carry a purse) to be ready when it strikes. You never know when Uncle Red as we used to say in high school is coming for a visit! Have fun Paul!

Christy- I laughed when you said uncle Red- My wife and I refer to it as "aunt Flo" coming to visit. (she is wicked in my book) Wifey insists she is not evil, though. Still, she can't leave soon enough!
