Sorry. I didn't reply because I have no idea. I took AdderallXr for a very short time. I didn't like the side-effects and quit taking it. I'm currenly not taking med's. I hope there is someone out there who has some better information for you.

Hello, Allen!
I'm trying Strattera, but the results aren't in yet! Hopefully I'll be able to report and make a recommendation one way or another pretty soon!
I don't have any first-hand or second-hand experience with Concerta by way of myself or my children, so I'm not sure what might compare to it!

Duh! I'm sorry Allen. I didn't even think about my daughter being on Concerta until I read someone mention Children taking it. My 8 year old takes Concerta. Previously, she took AdderallXr and lost far too much weight. We switched her to Concerta a month ago, and she's eating like crazy. I also got the first positive note from her teacher last week. So, she seems to be doing better on Concerta than AdderallXr. The only problem is, if she's hungry, tired, not feeling well, etc she gets emotional when the med wears off. I also wanted to mention if you don't think Concerta is working for you, or you don't like the Side-effects, don't be afraid to mention it to your doctor and try something new. Just like with Children, sometimes it takes a while to find the right medication. I hope you find the one that works for you! Beckie -- Who wonders where her mind has gone.

What is Concerta not doing for you? What are your expectations of an adhd medication? How much Concerta do you take? How long have you been taking it?
Everybody's body chemistry is a little different. What may work great for one person works terrible for another.
My knowledge of Concerta is second hand. I don't take medications.
My sprouts worked through nearly all the stimulants before Concerta. Works well on their ability and focus without too many side effects.
For they younger one, he was on Concerta early enough in school to really come around academically. For the older one although he's now able to pay attention and focus better he still has a long way to go to develop the skills he needs to succeed academically. How to study. How to take a test. How to take notes. And there's all the subjects that build on each year. His gaps need to be addressed too.
So it gets back to what your issues are and what you expect medication to do for you.

Sierra, I have taken Concerta for a year or two. Ritalin before that for severa years. My problem is concentration. When I first started taking Ritalin it really helped me. Before I would be at work all-day and go from task to task never finishing anything. After that it really helped. I take 54mg of concerta but I have had two heart blockages and my doctor tells me it is hard on my heart. Also if anything else is going on around me I just can not concentrate and that is what is the hardest now. Thank You, Allen

Allen, out of curiosity, why did you stop taking Ritalin?

Doug it is my understanding that Ritalin and Concerta are both methylphenidate. It releases pver several hours and you only need one a day because of that. Thanks, Allen www.adhdhelp.org/concerta.htm

What about Strattera? Being a non stimulant it might be easier on the heart! But I know it effects the bloo pressure..
