After I went to meet the teacher night at school, I came home and reviewed all my notes in front of both Michael and DH.
Biology class, books are still on back order, but there is a test on Monday! What should we study?
Geometry class, you will need to buy a TI-83 + calculator for your student, you can get them at local retailers for $75-100. (silly me, I thought Geometry was finding angles and stuff, and you can calculate the Sines and Cosines using given info... why do you need a $100 calculator?)
History class... I admit... I SKIPPED that class, after all the others I had already been to!
English class~ well, where to beging... the books are also on back order. This class is for the Visual and Performing arts Small Learning Communities, so most of the work will be artistic in nature ( Michael is in the Engineering and Technology community and doesn't perform well~ hence the poor grades and the IEP!)
NEXT... the teacher WILL NOT allow a student to use the bathroom during her class, period... and the class is a double period... 94 minutes long.
NEXT... all papers must be turned in to her INBOX... and not handed to her... that way she can't lose them! WELL... I DEMAND FAIR PLAY... I want HER to put HIS papers INTO HIS BINDER so that HE can't lose them! But that would be taking the "responsibility" away from him!
DH got green and pointy and started on a tirade about how do these people expect to get cooperation when a kid is sitting in class for an hour and a half, with maxi pad leaking, no book, worrying about "performing" in front of a class of talented performers, and then turn in papers that are lost because the teacher can't put it in the right place!
;D Oh, he was on a roll! Actually, a broom stick! It was precious! Of course, all this in front of the ADHD'er kid and the ADHD'er wife... and we flew with it!
Heaven help the teachers this year! We got another broom stick in the house!
And just to top it all off... the tech ed. class, the "core" for his Engineering/Technology Community... he had to get a "B" or better in Algebra to take the Engineering course... After TWO years of algebra (because the first year he only got a 79 they made him retake it, and he got a 77 ~why put in effort when repeating a class you have already passed?) he isn't ALLOWED to be in the engineering basics. So, they put him in "Non~Metals", a course ony offered to Juniors and Seniors (but he is a sophomore). Guess what? Non~metals is WOOD SHOP! Why not call it Wood Shop?
There, the teacher mentions that the kids have to draw up the plans for a project that they are going to make, and then price it out, and they have to purchase the wood and screws, and then build it. No problem, except that we have to buy the wood THRU the school, which means paying set prices, not picking out our own exact peice of wood like we would at the lumber yard! GRRRR
No wonder that DH, an Engineer (and former Rocket Scientist~ literally) got on a broom stick! The school won't train him to think like an engineer, just an intro to "tech" course, and tell us we HAVE to buy inferior wood at outrageous prices. And buy an expensive calculator...
Oh, the joy of finally in tandem with DH! My marriage my actually get MUCH BETTER!
