My son went for his second opinion at the eye doctor. When they put the eye drops in his eyes, as they started to work, he got more and more fidgety. It was like he wanted to crawl out of his skin. I don't think it was an allergic reaction or anything, but I think it affected his sensory stuff. ?? He does have some sensory things going on. It was weird to watch.

Why did I put this in Education anyway? It took me forever to find it. No, I've never had those drops in my eyes. I can imagine it would be really strange...and scary to some kids. He kept saying to me, "Mom, everything's getting fuzzy" and twisting/turning in the chair, stretching his shirt over his knees.

;DSorry mom, were you having a moment there ;D
I can't stand the drops, and i get weirded out too.
If they do have to do the drops again, just to make this officially educational 8-)I wouldn't send him back to school. No sense in having him struggle to read, write or anything else for that matter.

Was it the drops that make you eyes dialate? If so I can understand where he's coming from. Everything is so blurry and out of focus, if he never experieced it before he probably got a little freaked out. How old is he?

Sometimes children with ADHD have kindof a sensory overload from unusual sensations. Usually it is with loud noises (Brigham had a total break down in a football stadium from all the fans), but it can be from tactile things like the seams on sock or shirts and stuff. From a medical stand point it sounds like it was probably something like that happening with the eye drops. However, eye drops can be absored systemically through the tear ducts. If you have to give them again have press down on the inner corner of his eye for several min. afterwards. If it is a systemic reaction, it will keep the drops from absorbing into the blood stream, if it is sensory (which I believe it is) it will give him something to focus on besides the strange feeling in his eyes. Either way, it should help. What kind of drops were they?

I'm not sure which drops they were... the dilating ones.
