I go in for the "meeting" tomorrow. My kid has been tested, observed, etc. His letter says they are going to
1. review his evaluation to determine elegibiltiy for special services. 2. Develop my kids IEP and determine educational needs.
I do know all the people that will be at the meeting since I work at the school. I dont really need to worry about being intimidated. I talk to all but a few of these people on an almost daily basis.
Is there anything I should know before the meeting? Anything I need to do or bring?
The 1 thing I really want to push for is to be able to request specific teachers (at the grade school level) based on their teaching style, personality, and how well I believe my son will get along with them. Is this a valid request for an IEP?

Well, the teachers for next year
1 teacher that looses grades papers then forgets to write them down in her book. She then blames the kids for not turning in homework.
The next is an ex cheerleader. She used to dress in revealing outfits to teach youngsters. She would also talk about her divorce to the kids. She doesnt do these anymore, but I still dont think she is the best for my kid.
The 3rd is a good teacher. She doesnt yell. My kid freaks when people yell. She doesnt loose things, and she is a good teacher. She already knows that I want her as his teacher. She knows how to deal with the problem kids.

The meeting went well. They told me what I already knew. My son tests in the high average in most areas. He comprehends reading on a 7th grade level (he is in 2nd). His big problem is behavior. They will give him preferental seating, seating where he can get away, rewards, notes home, etc.
They will be giving him more time to take standardized tests so that if he is having a bad day, he can do it later, and trying to do more explaining and organization things. Guess we will see how it goes.

Just keep a very good paper trail of that goes on... follow up phone calls with a written "thank you" note that includes a summary of what was discussed. (see the tourette syndrome web site tutorial... it is awesome but will take some time to absorb all of it). Also, keep in mind that an IEP can be re-opened at any time that you feel an issue needs to be reconsidered. As far as the actual accomodations to consider, there was a member of the old site that posted a great link... let me find it and I will add it on here for you. home.insightbb.com/~eisresources/files/Interventions%20Main.htmLaurie

I dont need phone calls, I work there. I talk to many of these folks almost daily even if it is just a "hows he doing today". I will be sure to keep all of the papers and things.

Sometimes that is a blessing...sometimes not!!!! Paul had a teacher in elementary school that would haul him over to me .....no matter what I was doing at the time and tell me every bad thing he had done.....In front of other staff

So far none of his teachers do that. They might mention when they are walking by me that B had a bad morning or something. Occasionally if they know I am in the building and something is going on, they will call me to the room to see if I can take care of it. Most of the time it is a matter of me asking how he is doing.
