YEAH Since I´am registered (health care) nurse and work in the preventive health care(little kid´s, school kid´s) and I have an adhd son...ds´s theacher asked me to talk to theacher´s weekly meeting about med´s as a ahdh treatment...YI-HAAA So, there I went, pretty well prepared, had my speach and answered some pretty dumm question´s( how can it be that those higly educated theacher do think only one way, can ask such dumm thing´s and listen to no one )... I think it went well, I was pleased of myself It´s hard to talk to theacher´s because (at least those one´s) they think they know it all I´ve done my part now, mayby that´ll help a little bit

Marja!! This is great ... AND I can say (particularly having met you personally) that I can imagine you being VERY good at this and would have got the information across very clearly (and patiently with those dumb questions!!) Can you give us some examples of the sort of questions the teachers asked?

Thank you of that nice compliment Remember that they do work with these kid´s and I´am a nurse, so some of their question´s may not be so dumm for other occupation´s, but here goes: Who deside´s of the use of the med´s Have these med´s been tested and how how do med´s alter the personality Cant you use any other method´s, like smaller croup´s... And: " SO, does this help then.... are we on the right track on this in here how.... ;D etc.... You have to remember also, that in finland they use med´s for adhd VERY carefully, it´s never the first thing to try and they tend to prescripe med´s for max 2 year´s of total use. All the other thing´s haave been tried before med´s....

Good job...it's nice to hear teacher's getting educated. I think it should be a class on ADHD/ADD should be a mandatory credit type thing that all teachers have to do.

I think some of the new teachers do take classes on ADD/ADHD but when confronted with a real person they don't get it and they don't know what to do.

:)Hey Marja! Glad to know there is another nurse around. I've been an RN for 26 years (graduated 26 years ago yesterday!) I have spent most of my nursing career working with cranky old men and their hearts. I have ADHD and so does Dd (so does my mom and so did her dad for that matter) I took a great independant study courses for nurses about ADHD through the lifespan. I learned a great deal. I can give you the email address of the company I got it from if you would like. This info wasn't out there 26 years ago when I was in school. The teacher Dd had this year has been a teacher for 28 years and for someone with an ADHD son she seemed to be very unsympathetic and unaware. The teacher that Dd has been recomended to have next year is much more helpful. (she was Dd's 4th grade teacher) I find myself educating other people who have ADHD kids and I think it's a shame that they don't educate themselves. I want to know everything I can to help my child.

Christy and Sweety, thank you for being so confident of my educational skill´s The main stream amongst theacher´s in here is "med´s are evil, no good..." . they can blame the kid for being "non co-operative" but when someone want´s to try med´s... then they get climping on wall´s like "OMG, they give med´s to calm this child " A bit hippocratic..... I tried my best as a professional and a mom.... that has to be enough at least for now.
