All: Well, the letter came home last week suggesting that Amy attend summer school. Amy is LD reading and speech with IEPs in both. She could really benefit from a few hours a day for a couple of weeks... HOWEVER - the times are 8:30-10:30 a.m. or 12-2 p.m. mid-week, with NO transportation offered. As a mom who is employed full-time outside the home, how in the heck am I supposed to get her there and back? And, where would she go the rest of the day? I've signed both my older kids up for daycamp and they get bus service which picks up and drops off in front of our house. There is NO WAY I could send her to summer school, even though I think it would be really good for her. This is crazy - that they don't make it more convenient for working parents... I find it hard to believe that the majority of kids who need this will be able to attend for these reasons. Grrrrrr!!

I SOOOOO HEAR YOU!! My sd was in summer school last year, if it helps the sting any for you, it was a TOTAL waste of time for her to go... It was m-th, 1/2 days for 6 weeks... GUESS WHAT?? They had a field trip every week? I dont get it!! But it did save grandma from watching sd the whole summer every day all day at least... BUT STILL what a waste of time... cat

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one... However, the more I thought about it, the more I wondered when they *could* have it - I guess nobody want to work a few hours each Sat. So, I will have to be the home school mommy for the summer. They DO send home some workbooks and materials for that (for a price, mind you!). I have a grant for tutoring for my ds, but can't get him to go! I think I'll have to put my foot down in August this year and MAKE him go, so he'll be starting on the right foot come Sept (5th grade). Sigh. Kris
