My dd has been having a time of late finding clothes that are "in style", but allow her to meet the dress code at school. They are required to keep shirts tucked in and wear a belt. Well, with the low-riders jeans and baby-doll shirts they make for girls these days, it is hard for the girls to do that. The shirts just aren't long enough. They ARE long enough to meet the top of the pants, but not tuck in. Of course the alternative to this is buy the shirts in a larger size, and buy the pants that hit the waist (if you can find them in a size zero!). Then they get teased for looking "geeky". It's a no-win situation! I don't know whether to be frutrated with the clothing industry for making the clothes this way, or the school for the no-budging rules. I just know that we were late this morning because Cami had to change shirts four times and jackets twice in her effort to find a shirt long enough to tuck in a little and a jacket long enough to hide the shirt some in case it came untucked while sitting down. Whatever happened to the high-wasted pants of the 80's?

I think back to the seventies...we wore three button jeans ( we were the generation that invented them) I wander why they dont have the longer shirts like we wore then..They were still baby doll shirts but longer and could be tucked. I still have a couple in the attic..its a shame they make it so hard to dress them..but with all due respect ;D ;D ;D ;D my 15 yr old son has come to me and said "gee mom these girls need to put more clothes on ..it's really getting hard to concentrate.. ;D ;D ;D ;D Hope ya find some decent shirts..Have a nice time shopping I know when I was a walmart last weekend all I saw was short tops and very short shorts for spring. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I know when I was a walmart last weekend all I saw was short tops and very short shorts for spring. ;D ;D ;D ;D That's my point I guess. These days that is all you can find in their size. It really is almost impossible to find fashionable jeans and shirts that aren't low-rise and short.

Are you old enough to remember when we weren't allowed to wear jeans or slacks period..females wore dresses to the knee AND knee socks only. Also when panty hose came around the girls that wore them were "loose". (never wore jeans till 7th grade as there were city wide rules)

'Fraid not. Although I have seen pics of me as a little girl in short dresses and long socks, my memory only has me in jeans. I practically live in them! If not jean pants, then jean shorts.

This is interesting because in the UK the kids wear a school uniform. Period! ... Both boys and girls have to wear ties and shirts at almost all schools ... a diversion from this only comes when the hem on the school skirt is too short or they try and get away with a pair of casual shoes ;D (Oh I remember getting into trouble for THE HEM being too short back when I was at school and Sam had some notes home when he would attempt to wear the wrong shoes on occasions or if his shirt wasn't tucked in!) ... Actually on the subject of school uniforms I think there are definitely pros and cons to them !! ... I know Sam spent years being jealous of other countries where they don't wear them !! ... but it sure takes away the pressure of trying to keep up with each other and fashion and still trying to stick within the school boundaries!! ... I would imagine that is pretty exhausting for Cami!!

some of the private schools and the catholic school here have uniforms..I have always wandered if it would be better but then I swing back towards indivualism and then I look at just how individual the kids can get..then I go back to saying I am sooo happy to have boys. I bet it is really hard to shop for teen girls.. I mean the line is so fine between proper and not proper.. oh my. good luck cami ;D

We have a couple schools in the public district I work for that are in uniforms. Although I know the kids would hate it, I'd be fine with it myself. No child would have better than the other.... no name-brand jealousy, etc. And no more changing clothes a thousand times every morning trying to decide what to wear! It is challenging to shop with her. I usually have her wear her lowest-riding jeans so she can test "drive" the shirts for tuck in ability. I wash all her shirts in delicate and dry on low to minimize shrinking.

I am all for uniforms too. Some of our private and Catholic schools wear them.
I think the dress code in some of our schools are really idiotic, but there is always some kids that would wreck it for the other kids if we didn't have a code.
Even in elementary schools the little boys can't wear "muscle" shirts...how dumb is that?

I'm a tank top and jeans person. I have tons of buttondown shirts, short-sleeve and long, that can be worn over my shirts. They're long enough to tuck in if necessary, even though they never are. We had the 3-inch rule in HS. Shorts could hit no higher than 3 inches above the knee when you were standing up. I finally said to heck with it and started buying guys' jean shorts, because they do not make girls' ones long enough. I'd roll them up for marching practice. I was stopped in the hall because I had them rolled up one inch too high (as the cheerleaders pranced by in shorts up to their butts...).

Even in elementary schools the little boys can't wear "muscle" shirts...how dumb is that? It's not dumb at all. We don't want our girls distracted by all them exposed muscles now do we? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I understand most of the reasoning behind the dress codes. Making them wear their shirts tucked in, and boys not being allowed to wear the baggy/saggy pants is supposed to help cyt down on them getting guns/knives, etc. into the school by hiding them underneath. But then you look at this Minn. shooting and how the shooter had two handguns and a rifle. Sad as it is to say, if they want it in there bad enough, they will find a way. And though it may be a bad time to bring it up, this school shooting is only going to make them that much tougher on the zero-tolerance rules.

Here in San Antonio they are pretty strict with the dress code. Shorts are not allowed after elementary school (not really a good thing considering the heat). Tank tops are never allowed and capris for girls have to be 2 inches below the knee. You even have to watch what is printed on T shirts. It's not allowed if it's even remotely inappropriate.
