Dan has decided to try going for a week or so without his meds in school, to see if he may be ready to drop them. So far it has been 2 days, and he has not had a problem yet. He said he is funnier in the hall between classes, but has been able to focus and do his work in class. I know 2 days are not much, especially since they just went back from spring break, and the work has not picked up yet, but keep your fingers crossed for him. His doctor has told him he is a good candidate for being off meds sometime during highschool, so he wants to try now.

How old is Dan? I'm hoping for his sake (and yours) that he can do it? Cami just went thru this very same thing but she is only 13. Jus a little advice here though.... don't trust his judgement fully. Get some feedback from teachers. Cami kept insisting to me she was doing fine off the meds, yet I got emails from teachers saying otherwise.
Keeping my fingers crossed for him. Let us know how it goes.

Dan will be 15 in another 2 months. As of today, I talked to the principal at the school, and he is back on his meds tomorrow. Part of the reason he wanted to try going without, is because he eats so much better off them, and being so involved in sports, eating well is very importaint. I did not give the teachers warning that he did not have his meds, and when I talked to the principal today, I did not mention it untill I had asked how his last week had been. She said the teachers had noticed a big difference in him. The biggest problem with him and the meds, is that he does not need them except for school. At home, church, sports, etc he is just fine without them. Well, I guess this did not work but at least I know that the meds are still doing their job. This was the first time he tried going without meds since he started them in 2nd grade.

I think sometimes we have to try WITHOUT meds just to clarify what the meds are doing ... It is EARLY days yet vickilyn ... so DON'T LOSE HEART !! ... At the same age as Dan my son still definitely needed them ... According to our doc around 16/17 is the age you can start to see whether they can do without them ... but NOT before .... and Dan is not 15 yet!! ... so there is still more time until you get to that point!! ...

Since he only needs them for school, tell him to lay off on weekends and holidays and bulk up then. I know with Cami, she eats pretty much nothing all day while on her med, but eats like a horse at night when they wear off. I let her because I know this is what keeps her at a healthy weight. Tell Dan like I told Cami.... don't lose heart. Your time may still be coming.
