I have been waiting for this for soooooo long!
I had a meeting with DS's teacher a few weeks back regarding his writing difficulties, executive dysfunction, etc. I told her that every year I go through a series of the same meetings to try and get DS help but they always push it off. Last year I felt that the principal was prepared to help but the special ed teacher (not the one that had worked with DS for 3 years in the past and knew him and his writing problems WELL but some other woman I didn't like who is no longer with the school) and the teacher from hell both sat in the meeting and told us that there was no problem whatsoever with him. The OT had said the same. (forget that the teacher - if you can call her that - was leaving message after message and writing me note after note about how he was "failing the writing course" for the year).
Well this year his teacher said that his problems go hand in hand with ADHD - that it was NOT a maturity issue. And she said that she was going to push for something to happen even if she has to come back (she is giving birth in a couple of weeks) after having the baby and fight for him.
Well - she did it! Starting in a week (after our 504 update meeting) he is going to start getting a half hour a day in writing help - not just the mechanics but in helping to organize and construct his thoughts and get them on paper (he is great verbally but NOTHING comes out on paper)! She also is very happy to have DS type his work at the pc during class if it is easier for him or bring his alphasmart dana in and use that (his nightmare teacher last year said absolutely not to that suggestion) and he is going back to using the Handwriting Without Tears paper I had brought in for him in the beginning of the year - before school started! It feels so good to FINALLY get everything we were asking for for soooooo long! And finally a teacher who actually GETS DS and loves him anyway!!!!
