You know, I've always loved holidays. But when you have a child that needs structure and routine, even the best of holidays turn out to be alot of work!! My family is great, but we had 15 guest who came for Thanksgiving, 8 of whom spent the night. And Austin was in the middle of everything, pestering the teenagers, being the clown, etc. He wasn't terrible--but I had the feeling that he could disintegrate at any moment, so I spent the time on guard, trying to anticipate and intervene before anything erupted. So although it was a good time, I feel emotionally spent. Which is why I say, it's a good thing that holidays are so short!

I can't relate to THanksgiving itself as in the UK we don't celebrate this at all but can certainly relate to other holiday situations like Christmas and Easter etc... When my son was younger (he is now 15) I also used to be "on my guard" at times like this ..... expecting him to overstep the mark at any moment etc.etc. !! As Linda says though - it really does improve as they get older!!
