Hi everyone!
My oldest, Alex (10) is ADD and I believe him to be Dyslexic. Last October, we moved to a new state and I had my first meeting with his classroom teacher the first week of November. After watching his grades slide for months, we finally had a school meeting to discuss options for helping him in class (this was January). I asked about the IOWA tests and if he could get help for that test and I was told that the cut-off date to send in the names of students that need help was the end of December and there wasn't anything that could be done now.
Well, I have been wondering if I should just keep him home those 2 days? I haven't a clue if the school has children who miss it take it again or what. But if he has no help with this test, his score will be low.
What would you do?
Thanks, Traci

Hi Traci.
You make a good point there. ADD / ADHD children seem to be always failing things and getting discouraged. On the other hand, if he writes it he sets a baseline (low as it might be) which then lets you argue that he needs special help next time or further accomodations with this education. So, in the long run, he might end up getting more help.

Does he have an IEP or 504 in place? I would think he would be getting help with this test....more time perhaps or even verbal.
As far as the IOWA test I am sure there will be a make up.....
I would see the principal and ask her about it being to late for him to get some help....It sounds strange to me that they are not willing to accomidate him.
