Anyone else have kids that are doing MISERABLE in everything INCLUDING what should be the easy courses!?! OM!! I just cant believe sd is having so much trouble with GYM (the report card says over and over that she is not meeting benchmark levels for her grade whatever that means!!) that they sent home exercises they expect us to have her do.... Are these people NUTS!! I mean we barely get through homework, now they want her doing 10 exercises 3 times a week also? I HATE SCHOOL!!! cat

They made us do this workout thing that didn't really take into account that fact that some people are built different or have asthma and really do take 12 minutes to "run" a mile.
Yeah. We just got participation grades.

No not a grade persay... Just stating that upper arm strength (or other body parts) has not met benchmark for grade level blah blah blah!! OH I forgot about her music, and art crappy reports!! The music teacher said "it is hard to gage her singing ability as I can not get her to sing to me" NOW COME ON!!! How many kids are willing to sing on cue? Art wasnt good either, but at the moment I am MORE upset about gym, and them sending exercises home for sd to do.. Sd is at least 8" smaller then anyone else in her class, of COURSE she isnt meeting some stupid standard... You just cant gage an ability of a child as small as kindergarten kids (even smaller then some) to normal sized second graders.... I HATE SCHOOL! If she was my child alone, I would pull her out of there so dang fast their head would spin, believe me they would know why too ... Cant they find ANYTHING to praise the girl over? All we ever get is bad! And I am just plain ole sick of it... cat cat

no I cant beleive what you wrote that is so crazy ya like I would bother with gym howmework no way.... when ds was in 1st grade the gym teacher asked for a conference I could believe it! she started telling me things and I stoped her and put her stait mind you I was 9 months pregnant and didt care what she thought, she never bothered me again ;D in his new school they get this seperate report card for gym she asked us to fill out a portion on what we can do to improve our kids I didnt respond so she sent it back I wrote that I had enough to deal with and unless this was going to affect his grades not to bother sending this back..... that was the end of it! I dont think I have to tell you she doesnt like me too much.... never says hi when passing by ;D

God! Steven is carrying D's in most of his core courses, and sure, I'd like it if he were in better shape, but you have to have priorities! There's only so much you can do! This is a case where you IGNORE the teacher's instructions. Or at least, "lose" them.

This is unbelievable and awful!! ... I also think that word "Priorities" is ESSENTIAL here!! ... This is crazy!! ... IMHO Gym should not be graded AT ALL until the kids have made a CHOICE (in mid-teens) whether this is a subject they want to continue in and specialise in ... (i.e. if they want to be a gym teacher or whatever!)... Oh Cats ... this is just an EXTRA (unnecessary) thing landed on you and your sd !! ... Back to what texasmom said ... PRIORITIES is the main word here!

I totally agree with the other posters. This is especially true if your child is healthy and functioning normally. If not, then it's a pediatrician's job, not the school's. A grade in Music?? Hello? What does singing ability have to do with that? I would think participation would be enough; we're not all gifted with nice singing voices. My mom can't carry a tune in a bucket, but she loves music and knows all the lyrics to any song! That should be plenty to get an "A" in music in elementary school. As for art - same thing. If she completes the assignments and makes an effort - that should be enough. I have never cared what my kids get in these areas. For a while there, my ds was getting negatives in PE because he wasn't attentive (duh, ADHD!). He thought that PE was the one area where he could "let loose" and run around - apparently NOT. Anyway, both my kids are so skinny it's ridiculous, so PE is a non-issue. I would tell the teachers so in plain English (if you think they can understand that). Kris

My son in 1st grade is having a miserable time in Gym. Once he told me that he feels like a monkey performing. Pretty astute for a 8 year old. Anyway, catch him on a day he does not want to perform, and there is no way it is going to happen. Is he getting enough exercise, sure enough. Last week they were doing some obstacle course, and he got student of the week. We were all amazed because he ususlly has bad reports of not doing an activity. Miles

DS had a bad grade in art last year. When we went over his report card with him he said "I thought art was for fun!" He's hated artsy stuff from the start! Coloring is a punishment to him. I think that the kids should all have art, gym and music, and should participate, but not be graded the same as their academics.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D In the words of the great Forrest Gump... That is all I have to say about that! Pllleeeaassee! Homework in gym. Yeah right teach, we'll get right on it. ;D Even though it is graded in middle school, I don't even push Cami on it now. If she gets an F in P.E. she will still move on to the next grade.... she will not if she flunks the core classes. That's what we concentrate on. I may start a debate here, but in my opinion, music, art, p.e., etc. should be done away with. If they spent the time they waste in these classes on the core subjects, they might not have to give so much stinking homework. I mean, when our kids graduate and they're at a job interview... that prospective employer isn't gonna give a rat's butt if they're arm strenth is up to par, or they can sing a tune. OK, OK, I'm getting off my soap box.
