WHY IS IT that the schools always seem to twist things around so the parents look bad??? Oh, I'm sooooo mad!! We were supposed to meet with the principal and ds' teacher this past Monday regarding missing items from his bookbag. Because of the snow, school was cancelled. So today, I get a message from the principal stating she'd like to reschedule the meeting, "regarding T's organizational skills and inability to complete homework at home." HELLO!!! He's unable to complete it because it's not COMING home - the meeting was to discuss WHY THE SCHOOL ISN'T CHECKING HIS BAG, AS STATED IN THE 504 PLAN!! The last I heard, they wanted T at the meeting because they said he might be taking things out of his bag after it's checked. Good grief! If they think he even looks at that bag between the time he leaves school and the time we FORCE him to get out his homework, they're crazy! But of course, they ARE crazy!! I HATE HOMEWORK - I HATE SCHOOL!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Is it me? They have twisted everything around to make it look like T can't get his work done. I wrote back stating he can do it if it comes home in his bag. I also wrote that organization and ADHD are mutually exclusive! Kris

I am not really sure why we send Jared in the first place...I have to reteach him his math , english and spelling. The science he is a natural at and his dad and brother usually help with the s.studies. He almost never gets anything done in study hall and other than exposing him to bad attitudes and viruses I cant remember WHY he is there.
Actually I do know why he is there and I am sad that he is not getting the education he deserves. You know grade school is suppose to be the best time in your life and look the stress these kids are having . Back (in the caves) in the old days they didnt diagnose adhd as much and they had less technology to help teach. Now they have wonderful avenues of teaching in technology and medications and teachers aides and it just seems worse now then back then to me. The more we go forward the less we go forward.
AND if one more teacher tells me my kid is irresponsible or forgetful then that teacher is getting mom in the classroom daily for a week.

Kris... Remember... Bucks County Schools are the best in the state... just ask them and they will tell you themselves! (yes, sarcasm) I got so tired of the daily destruction of self esteem, and now I have two kids doing homeschool. (Remember Montgomery County is the second best in the state! *sarcasm again!) My kid isn't lazy, irresponsible, or forgetful... He learns the material the first time through it (not lazy) he shows up in class anyway (responsible) and he remembers that homework is simply repetition of work he already mastered (not forgetful). (more sarcasm) So he doesn't do the homework, scores well on the tests, sleeps through class, and fails each semester. But he isn't a behavioral problem, so the school just lets him come in and warm the seat and bring in the tax dollars, and every 10 weeks send home a note saying, he has all D's and F's... what are the parents going to do? Why should I fight with them... they are content to collect the pay checks... and they don't listen. So I find lately that I just smile and nod my head and tell him to be a good little boy (14 y.o. who is 5 ft. 11 in) and play their game. And every day after school, he reports to the ROTC Colonel, and does everything that is asked of him and more, and marches, does push ups, and exemplifies leadership with military precision. Yup, he is lazy, irresponsible and forgetful... NOT! Give the kid some respect, like the colonel does, and he will jump through hoops. But ask him to call you teacher, or mom or dad, and he rebels. I guess my moral is this... who cares if the teachers think I look bad... as long as my son can function as a hard working, responsible, and conscientious adult, they can write what they want on his report cards. Gee, I am so glad I moved to a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence for their supportiveness. (oops, I am being sarcastic again!) End of my Laurie

Boy have I BTDT, for 2 years I fought every day with the teachers and principal. 6th and 7th grades were nightmares. Teachers were calling him stupid, you will never amount to anything, etc. This year he is doing GREAT, and these same teachers are bragging about how wonderful he is, so mature, smart etc. Now that he doesnt have them teaching him anymore he is having a wonderful year. Gee, I wonder why? Maybe because this year the teachers treat him with respect, and like he has a brain and feelings? Every time they tell me how proud they are of Dan, I just want to tell them that its because he is not being tortured in their classes anymore Makes me sick to even look at these teachers.

Oh, Trid! ;D You don't have to tell me about Bucks Co. schools - they're wonderful - they tell us so all the time! And they don't have ANY students who are less than perfect! That was the attitude of the previous principal (who retired, Thank God!). Any kid who wasn't a high achiever was totally ignored and swept under the carpet. The standardized tests are everything! THey spend a whole week teaching the kids how to take them - but they don't "teach to the tests." Yea, right. By the time the test comes, the kids are so nervous who knows how they can cope? Ugh. Unfortunately, I don't have the patience nor the time to home school. I make the bulk of the family income. Plus, I can barely get through homework with my sanity in tact, let alone teach! Kris

I feel for ya'all. My guy is in first grade, and we have a principle and good support group at the school to look out for ds. I know when the classes get bigger, the teachers will not be able to spend the time with him. I just will continue to make myself a presense in his education by stopping by as often as it takes to find out what's up. Miles
