Whew!, is right!! My ds got three F's and a D the first nine weeks of school. His father and I went to the school and nearly were ready to tear it apart, but after finally getting an IEP, WE INSISTED ON GETTING A DIFFERENT TEACHER also!!!! He got his report card again today and HONEST, he got three A's and two B's!!! Now can you imagine that? It's too bad we have to sit on top of the school systems, but NO ONE will look out for our children if we don't do it! His first teacher wasn't bad, she just wasn't the one to get through to our son. Most school systems think they know it all, but let's face it, NO one knows our children like we do. We still work very hard with him and it's not easy, but for it to pay off like this is a wonderful reward for all of us!! He was SO thrilled and proud, it almost made me cry for him....

NEVER MIND!! Let me post my retraction here.... it seems I jumped the gun. The grades I saw are posted on the school's website and it seems they were the averages of the first two nine weeks, but not the grades for the nine weeks. Anyway, she did get two F's. But, as she put it, they were "high F's." Her school doesn't have D's, they go from Cs to Fs. Anyway, the F's were both 68's. One in Science and one in Pre-Alg... then she made a 70 (one point away from a F enter whew here) in Soc. Studies. If she went to school in the district I work for, those F's would have been D's which are still passing. Anyway, we had a long talk about why she made those Fs and what we can do to avoid it happening again. The teachers had marked "low test scores" and "incomplete work" as the reasons for the low marks. I'm still truing to decide what to do for a punishment. With all that's going on with this recent, still not official, depression dx of hers I guess I don't want to be too hard on her, but I want her to know she's got to start taking school a little more seriously.

Christy...maybe when they get the depression sorted out...things will get better. You have mentioned in other posts about Cami having a possible depression. Is the depression different for a child her age or do you think it might be hormonal? cat....Letter grades don't start here until 4th grade

Linda.... it's real hard for me to say. I think part of it has to do with the ADHD and the low-self esteem she has always had due to the struggles that come with it. Then I think it's age related... having to do with the change to middle school, the rejection from the more "popular" clique girls at school, or the guys... the bullying, the struggles for grades, etc. I guess it could just be all of it all rolled up into one.
I took her to see a psych during Christmas break and she will see him again Tuesday.... he had me sit in on that first meeting so he could get all the info about my pregnanacy with her, how she was as a baby, toddler, child, etc. After talking with her a while and asking her questions, he even asked me if we had a history of bipolar in the family. Then when he told them I feel my mother is depressed though she's never been dx'd (but who could blame her?) and that I'm currently taking depression med he leaned towards that. One timer while questioning Cami on how she feels "most days" he used the word depressed. He mentioned Lexepro but never went any further. Anyway, we'll see what happens from Tuesday. He was a real nice man and I was impressed with how he was with Cami. He talked like he plans to see her a while, talking about how they would play games together and teasing her about how he was looking forward to beating her at Uno (he found at Cami likes the game and he claims to be the Uno champ). He even told her he was looking forward to working with her. I'm hopeful that we will get her thru this. She has been going thru a rough patch and is very quick to go off and very quick to get emotional. I guess that's why I didn't make to much fuss over the Fs last night because she was already pretty upset about it herself.

Christy...It sounds like the psych. is going to be very good for her...She has taken the first step which is a good thing. Keep us updated. From what I understand a lot of our kids suffer from depression and I know very little about it.
