I had a real hiccup this morning with my 16 year old son who now attends college ... he has been really seeming to ENJOY college which I have been sooo pleased to see ... but suddenly this morning in the car on the way there he threw this one at me:
"I hate college Mum and I want to leave" ...
I nearly collapsed right there and then ....
Me: "Why? Whats wrong?" etc. etc.
Him: "I just HATE it" ...
Me: "Why?" ...
Him: "I just doooo" ...
(As you can see we were NOT getting very far with this conversation!!) ...
ME: "Well what do you have in mind that you would like to do instead?" ....
HIM: "I don't know ... I just know I don't want to do what I am doing right now" ...
ME: "OK ...ok ... " (Keep calm Anne!) ... "I thought you really enjoyed college" (just last night he was absolutely FULL of it!) ...
HIM: "No ... I have always hated it ... I don't want to go anymore.. and I definitely don't want to go today"
Anyway ... needless to say I was late for work ... trying to talk him through all this ... and he DID go to college today .... and I had a pretty rotton day with this going through my head....
Anyway, after college he said "Sorry about that this morning Mum... I AM going to complete my course ... I just hate all the maths we have to do on Fridays which put me in a bad mood this morning!"
What do I make of that though? I want to think it was just a "one-off" disgruntled morning but I am worried now ...

Anne, honey, he's just paying you back for taking you to lunch! He probably just was feeling blah this morning, as we all do from time to time. Take comfort from the fact that he apologized and assured you he would finish. It's also good that he identified the thing that bothers him the most. He's really turning into a great young man, isn't he!

I wouldn't worry about it too much "mum". He was probably just having a bad morning.

THANKYOU everyone ... Kayla ... ;D I reckon you have a point about the lunch!! ;D ;D I think you are right ... (I HOPE you are right!) .. that this was based on a "bad" morning with too much maths ahead of him!! ... I am not sure how often over the years i have constantly tried to point out that MATHS is a subject found in pretty much EVERY area of life ... and he just has gotta DO IT!! .. Oh and Linda I know exactly what you mean by the button pressing! I really felt that Sam was pushing mine yesterday morning ... maybe just to find out how I would react!! .. Hmmm .....

It is the stimulation-seeking part of ADHD. Same reason I drove people nuts in the car.

How many of you had to deal with this?
*poke*
Stop that.
*pokepoke*
I said to stop.
*pokepokepokepokepokepokepokepoke*
And of course, it just wouldn't be complete if they aren't saying "poke" every time they poke you.
