My son is having all kinds of problems in third grade. Something must be done. We've been there four times and they have yet to test him, move him to another teacher, or change the way he's being taught. I need a student advocate, I think. What do they do specifically and how do I go about finding one? Already a fourth of the year is gone and he's slipping through the cracks exactly as I told them each time in the "meetings". Yep, I've met with the teachers (2), principal and the assistant principal. Supposedly he's on the "list" to be tested (someday). They have been very nice BUT NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO HELP HIM! I hate to turn into a (b)witch!!! How do I find an advocate?

I found my advocate through an organization called C.A.U.S.E (citizens aliance to uphold special education), that is based here in michigan... Maybe they would be able to help you find one in your state though? Its worth a shot, their web addy is www.causeonline.org ... I hope they can help you, our advocate was wonderfull! Luckily it only took me dragging her to one meeting, the school has been very cooperative every since... cat

Take a look at this web site... I have a furnace being installed so I am highly distracted today, but it looked like there might be a few links here to check into. Hope this isn't a wild goose chase... www.specialednews.com/states/tx/tx.htmlThere is a link apparently for every state, but I didn't take time to search it out in detail today.
