Hi Some may remember that my ds has used cd-player w/ headphone´s at school last year with some good experience, to help him concentrate. Now I sold the idea for his new theacher, he took his cd-player to school and now they´ve used it couple of time´s at math. It is still helpfull, it make´s it easier to him to concentrate to his task´s when he´s listening music. They are trying those now for a few week´s and if it´ll continue to be helpfull for him, then he´ll be able to use them the hole year. We´ve done this at home too, it´s easier to him to do homework while listening some music. I´am so clad that his theacher is willing to try these thing´s Let´s hope this´ll continue as good...

Good for you to find something that works.
When he's doing his homework, does he listen to the headset or just have a radio on as background noise?

Well, I prefer the headset, but now when he has his cd-player in school, it´s more like a radio as an backround noice(or telly for that matter ) It´s amazing how he seem´s to be able to concentrate better the more distraction there is

Isn't that the truth, well, for some kids. Tara is like that, Mikey on the other hand, I'm still trying to figure him out. He used to work good when he had music, now he complains if it isn't dead silent and he's trying to work.

Cami always does her homework with her radio blaring. I have never understood how she can concentrate that way, but she can. It is amazing how they can concentrate better with lots of distractions. With me, it has to be quiet.

Christy, me too. Too loud noice´s annois me so much must be a mom-thing ;D I talked to the theacher today, she was pleased about how much this really help´s Sami to concentrate and how well he has handled this so the other´s hardly even have a ckue of his "priviledge". She say´s she want´s to continue this for now. Good thing to hear

Kaiti, good question. He had a "Leonard Cohen" cd with him this week, he liked it(I do too, so it doesn´t suprice me ) so I think we´ll continue whit popular-music, not too loud or rythmic thoug ;D Dont want him to start dancing during the glass ;D

Linda Is it just that we (at least me) are too straight brained to listen and consentrate at the same time I hate it when we have telly, radio, dvd-player... all in the max volume YELLING I´d prefer silence any time that´s why I love walking alone in the wood´s, no one talking constantly ;D

This is VERY interesting ... Sam too seems to like some background "noise" when he is doing something and YET it doesn't actually tally up with what adhd is meant to be like! ... Part of ADHD is meant to be a problem tuning in on ONE thing because all the other things are distracting you ... but this is in fact the exact opposite which is very interesting! ... this is in fact saying that in order to CONCENTRATE on ONE thing our adhd'ers need "Another" thing which most of us would find too distracting!! ... UH OH I am getting confused now!! Wow!! I would really like to learn more about this and how it fits in the bigger adhd picture!

Anne
I think the main thing with ds, at least, is that music is something that can be on the backround not disturbing, BUT keeping all the other distraction,( meaning other´s talking and doing their thing´s,) away of his ear´s. O´kay I know, I explained this really on a odd way, have to exuce my lack of word´s in here.
but that´s the case with ds, he can use the backround noice to cover everything else.
