>:(Well, when it comes to having a 504, I sure was impressed by how easy it was for me to get everything together for it last year. Everyone was cooperative, helpful. Hey here's an idea, why don't you let the teacher know the kid has one for next year I wondered why Mikey got a compisition book for his spelling, in his 504, he's suposed to have special paper for neatness and spacing. I was also wondering why Mikey was getting his name on the board, which is fine, I'm not arging that he misbehaves, but ohhh, I'll finish in a minute, be patient with me for a sec, the teacher just e-mailed me again, after I e-mailed her about his 504 She didn't know he had one Here we go, I'll be meeting with her on Monday at 8:15 when the kids have their special. UM, is it me, or was the school supposed to give her the 504 or some type of notification that says who has what in their class Talk about pissed off. Now that I think about it, he sat out of recess to finish the work that was SUPPOSED to be cut down for him I will keep my tounge in check only because I had Mrs. * for a teacher and she is very good. She gets frustrated, but holds the kids accountable at their own levels. Oh boy let's see what the day brings. Pray I don't kill my kid, he's too cute to loose

Talk about miscommunication sheeesh!
Last year I requested that the new teacher be in sd's IEP meeting before school let out... The school fought me, but I won in the end... Get it straightened out (dont forget your hat and broom! LOL), then next 504 meeting request the new teacher be involved to give them the heads up... The school WILL argue but we dont know who her teacher will be, blah blah blah it is totally BS... I called their bluff by saying then both 2nd grade teacher need to come in for the IEP... Of course they liked that idea even less!! Good luck

Rosyred: I'm not at all surprised. Mine is even better. Tad's teacher KNEW he had a 504, I even GAVE her a copy in a folder with other info on him, and she STILL didn't check his agenda/take-home materials the first week of school. Apparently, she never READ the 504, cuz that is clearly spelled out as something that needs to be done. She's doing now that I reminded her (twice). Kris

Kaiti - I had to hand carry a copy of the 504 to teachers this year. It's really annoying. I still don't know if they've received the 'official' copy.

I always send a copy to the teacher when I find out who they are at registration. We have been lucky that the previous year's teacher recommends the next year's teacher based on the 504 at the end of the year. I still send a copy to the teacher just to cover all the bases. One thing I have learned in life is to never assume they (anybody) will know what to do and to always follow up frequently. For a while I thought I was a banker and a real estate agent making sure everything was done....but that is another story. Miles Miles

Well, I had an answer, well, comment all typed out last night and the computer froze up Anyhow. I can believe they don't look into the files. Heck not me. Even with SACC, I feel I need to know as much as I can about each of the kids, just to better serve the parents. Allergies, medical background for emergency purposes, do they have any brothers or sisters. Something to make the lines of communication between me and the child stay open. I don't know, I just can't wait for Monday to get here, I'm not ticked at the teacher so as much that I am ticked there are so many kids in the class. They are supposed to be adding on to the school sometime here in the next few years, we are just at capacity. There are almost 20 if not more kids in each class-with the exception of 1st grade having 3 classes. That's almost 475+kids in the school

Well, I finally had the meeting. Funny thing that we laughed about, half of the things she does in general anyhow, and the other half was geared more towards older kids. :oI was trying to cover all of the bases to begin with, so that was me insisting on them.
But she said she is very concerned about his coordination and visual perseption.....there's that word again ::)The OT said for the past 3 years that she has teasted him, he doesn't need OT, so my question now
EXACTLY WHAT IS OT? and HOW DOES IT HELP? Thanks

Oh! No! No!No! No! I can not believe that these teachers do not have a 504 plan on the very first day these kids start school. This is unexceptable!! This is something that should follow them from year to year. This is the counselor's responsiblity to make for sure that the new teacher gets this. Boy! forget the hat and broom! Where is my whipping stick if this happend to me!! This is total neglect on the schools part. They have no problem letting us as parents have it when we do not do are part!! I would have to go to the pricipal with this one, because it sounds like someone is passing the buck to save thier behinds!! Because how long has school been in with no 504 in place. They would have to go back through and grade curve or something to make me happy, because he should not be responsable for the grades he got before this!!

I actually ran into the counselor today as I was leaing and told her: You know I can't believ Mrs.* didn't have his 504! The look on her face, I felt so bad. She said it was her fault, although she isn't the 504 coordinator, she didn't follow up on it. She is really great though so I have a hard time being mad at her. I did however get her to realize that she need to follow up on what the 504 coordinator did attend too. I agree it isn't acceptable, even mom said the same thing, who is a teacher at the school Thanks
