I know this won't work for all kids, but my DD's teacher (2nd grade) came up with a new way to study for spelling words. She writes each word in pencil and then goes back over them with at least four different colored crayons. She calls it rainbow writing.
So far it has really helped DD. She doesn't feel like she is studying, and it's FUN.

???Do you think that will work for a 5th grader? Rose and I are having a terrible time with our spelling words. I personally think the words are a little tough for 5th grade (terrarium, vertebrae, skeleton + 13 more) but those are this weeks words so we have to know them. (I also had to remind Rose that it is OK to go up to the teacher's desk and quietly ask her to repeat the intructions.) Any other ideas about spelling word help for a 5th grader would be appreciated.
