There's a song that starts out like that and the verse ends .... and one of these days the boots are gonna walk all over you.... We got our first note from school (first day). Our little sweetee (to the teachers) decided to start off the school year by giving his teachers some roses he clipped from our garden. The teacher sent a note home with him thanking him and signing it, "your friend, Mrs. K". My wife and I kinda cringed. When the honeymoon is over.....boots are gonna walk all over you. Have any or all noticed that your kids will be the sweetest to those who don't really know them, but lets their hair down when it comes to those closest to their hearts? It is like once he gets to know their weaknesses then he tightens the noose more and more until they are red in the face with frustration, or give up. Sorry to vent, I just am soooo tired to walking into his room every morning smiling, kissing, encrouraging and be told to stop it, get away, leave me alone. His memory of what he does not want to hear is about ooooo 2 seconds, but he can remember the color of a shirt on a girl at a park 2 years ago?  Nothing ever changes. My expectations are starting to fall in that category too. I believe in natural consequences to a point. I can't just leave him in bed, I have to get to work......uggg. Miles  |

Miles I know what you mean, it only start´s after they really get to know the person, spy out the weak part as you put it  It´s not nice being the doormatt, but we only have to remember that we´ve made something right since they believe us ( and our love) enough to show the reall them at us  I hope the honeymoon continue´s so you wouldn´t have to worry about phonecall´s for a while  |

My middle child, non adder, 2nd grade, is the one who doesn't want to get out of bed. I've started a rule that for everytime I have to return to his room to get him up, he goes to bed 15 minutes earlier that night. Gee, that really hurts my feelings... early bedtime! ;D Of course, that's the end of the "nice mom". I get real mean and tell him I'll be nice again if he "gets it in gear, and comes to the kitchen dressed and with a smile on his face". This seems to work most of the time. Good luck, mornings are never fun . |

Why do I picture Linda dancing like I saw Ms Sinatra dance, with the little dress and big BOOTS Anyhow, don't worry Miles, my kids are that way to a point. Natural consequenses work incredibly well at our house. Get stung by a bee-shoulda had your shoes on. Burn yourself? shouldn't have been so close to the stove. Cold? Put some clothes on. It's tough when it effects schedules and stuff, BUT I have always been a hardnose when it comes to things. If you are just starting really enforcing things, it's gonna take a bit, but stay firm and steady. Now that I hear the bass line of the song, wh odo I thank, Miles or Linda  |

Okay - I now have a picture in my head of Linda wearing white go-go boots and a VERY short hemmed dress from the sixties! (Blame it on Kaiti)
I have to tell his teachers every year to beware - if you give Alexander and inch - he will take a mile - just told his teacher two weeks ago. He isn't a behavior problem (unless he spits out his meds) - but he is REALLY little - one of the shortest kids in the school and he is in 4th!! - and really cute! So he tends to go on his "looks" and people think he is sooo cute and sooo little and much younger than he is - he tends to skate by and not work up to his potential! Don't be fooled!!!
Miles - are you all still doing the timer thing? We stopped during the summer. Now we have to get back on that - or the homework thing will be an issue. It is still much better than last year though. Each year does get better. I remember last year you taking ds in the car without his clothes LOL - but I guess you are right - if he doesn't get up you can't really leave him home and go to work . . . good luck!!
