A lady that I work with has a son who is in Iraq. His tank was bombed, killing one, critically injuring 3, 2 others had minor injuries and two were unscathed. He was one of the ones who were not hurt (luckily). However, he was MIA for 3 days because another tank picked him up and it was under a communications blackout. It was a scary few days.
Anyway, our office is sending him a care package. His sister sent us a list of things he would like, and among those things were notes and letters and jokes. So I asked Jarrett's teacher if the class could write him letters or draw him some pictures. She gave them to me yesterday, and they are hilarious! My co-workers and I have been cackling over them all morning long! The teacher made sure they used correct sentence and paragraph structure and started the letters "Dear Nick," and ended them with "Sincerely", but otherwise just let them write what they wanted. The spelling in most of them is atrocious! One child put "I hope you are boing god in Iraq". We think she means "being good in Iraq". Another put "i have five pupes" Puppies, I guess, but we got a good laugh over that, too. Another put "I hope you are very hethey and do not get in jale" Another put "go army man go Nick!" I thought that was cute.
Here is Jarrett's:
"Dear Nick,
How far is Iraq. I'm glad your figting for fredom in the USA. how hard is it up there. I hope your o.k. I'm glad you were't lost by the way where you. What is it like up there in Iraq.
Sincrely,
Jarrett

Most of them asked questions about what it was like in Iraq and how far away it is. I hope he has time and the opportunity to write them back. They would be thrilled!
I thought this was a good class project. If any of you have family or friends over there, you may want to ask your child's teacher if they are interested in doing something like that. I was worried that she would turn me down, but she was very excited about it.
