Well we are on our third week of Dan in 8th grade. I cant believe the diffrence in him. We upped his Adderoll XR from 20 mg to 30 mg. He also seems to have a great set of teachers this year. I dont know if it is the meds, the teachers, if he matured over the summer, or all of the above, but wish us luck that it continues. He has not been in trouble once so far, has been going into school between 7:00am and 7:30 am for tutorials, and has been awsome during football practice. He was invited saturday night to a friends to play poker, (no money, just chips) about 15 boys were there and they had a blast. Friday night we went to a varsity football game, and DS got to hold the banner for the team to run thru, and came home with a girlfriend. I have a good feeling about this year, and just wanted to let everyone know that it does sometimes get better. We had a very bad year in 6th grade, and 7th was only a little better. DS feels good about himself this year, and I can see his self-confidence going thru the roof! I hope everyone else has a good school year, and keep fighing for your kids.

Hooray for Dan!!! ;D I am sure it is a combo - he has matured, a great teacher . . . and of course, a girlfiend;)! Isn't it wonderful?!! I actually have hope that this is going to be a great year too! Isn't it a wondeful feeling? Like a weight is slowly being lifted off your shoulders!! (I say slowly because of that feeling of relief mixed in with that conditioned waiting for something to happen).

I know the waiting feeling. I still hold my breath when he is comming home from school or other activity. Maybe someday we will all be able to really relax about our kids. Its funny, as much as he hated 6th grade, my DD just loves it. She is falling right into the junior high school expirence. Progress reports come out on friday, so I will really be holding my breath then.

Vickilyn this is soooo good to read!! As for stopping holding our breath though I don't know that we ever do!! ... I still do it !! Old habits sure die hard! ... Well done Dan!! I also think that a combination of all the factors you mention make up the improvement !! ... but really at the end of the day it is down to the kid himself/herself ... GOOD NEWS !! & GOOD LUCK WITH THE PROGRESS REPORTS !! Keep us posted!!

That is wonderful news! I do think they mature some each year, and they have added motivation. For example, "if you want to stay on that football team, or talk to that girlfriend, you better stay out of trouble!" And yes, good teachers help too. And lastly, don't count yourself ou either. Good parenting makes a difference as well! Way to go Dan and Vickilynn!

Well progress reports were very good. He had all "A"s and "B"s, except for one class where he forgot to turn in a paper, and even that was at least a "C". His language arts class that I was so worried about he now has an 80. However, he thinks one of his best friends broke his arm last night at football practice. He will find out today at school, because they do not have a phone right now. I hope it is not broken, this boy had to miss part of basketball last season because he had surgery, now he may miss almost all of football. We have our first game tomorrow, and there are only 8 games total.

prayers for Dan's friend, that bites missing a season. Glad to see his grades are good. Now if he would just bring that C up and not drop the others....I say from personal experience

The friends arm is not broken, and he played in the game last night. We won, and Dan made several good "hits". In the locker room he was told he earned 3 skull and crossbone stickers for his helmet. He was so proud last nigh. DD was voted class reporter, and had her first chair test today for band. Just wanted to update you on the friend.
