Well, let me be the first to post on this topic for the new school year.....
Cami's school had what they call their "Meet and Greet" last night. It's the night we go and see what team our kids will be on and get to meet the teachers for the first time as well as our kids seeing where their new classes will be.
Anyway, I stood in the lines of each class to meet each teacher and make sure they knew of Cam's ADHD and 504. I spoke with the counselor first who assured me all the info had already been given to all teachers. The first one I spoke with confirmed that. I had a pretty good feeling with all her teachers. One of them remembered her name from his list of "special needs" kids as soon as I introduced her. He told me that after Cami had walked away and I mentioned the 504. That impressed me since they were just given the list that morning. Another teacher I worked with years ago when I worked at a middle school. The best part was this: one of her teachers, who will also be her homeroom teacher has an ADHD son! She told me he just graduated high school and she remembers all too well the struggles he endured to get there and how so many people think ADHD is a myth. She told me that if Cami needs ANYTHING, extra time for work, tests, whatever, to just let her know and she will give it. She said she will help her any way she can.
I felt like this was an answered prayer.... ok, I know it was.... I had started praying for a teacher who fully understood ADHD, one like her 5th grade teacher who also had an ADHD son, months ago!
Hopefully, it'll be a good year, as long as she can keep that impulsive mouth shut!
