Honey's school has started the testing they want to do on him. I don't know if I said or not, but the final decision was to redo the speech and language, do a IQ test, and then a developmental test. Once these are all done we are meeting with the school. That will be next week Thursday. At that meeting we will change or modify the IEP as needed.
The part I'm not sure on is what comes next. Say he does poorly on the tests, I already know he did on speech and language but they are still doing the report on it so I don't have specifics. They already mentioned the possibility of a special summer program just for him with a personal tutor. When do I totally trust that the school is right in their findings. I have no reason to believe they are trying to pull anything on me since we agree so much on the problems, but do I have the tests redone on my own for saftey's sake, or not? Or, say they feel that he in fact does have PDD or something else, do I then find another doctor?
Also what exactly is a 504 plan for? I don't want to be totally unprepared when I get there or I won't be much help. Maybe a 504 doesn't apply for Honey, but I don't really know what it is and how or if it would benefit him.
Plus, can a school dx a student with anything? Like after the tests can the school phychologist say that he has whatever? This part of it is all new to me. This year it was just speech and language, but I have already heard the words occupational therapy, cross-catagorical classes, more special classes and so on. This is a whole new ballgame. What do I have to look out for? What should I ask them?
I just don't want to screw with up and have it hurt Honey. Kindergarten is going to be hard for him and I don't want to add to it.
Thanks for any info..Becky
