Since january I have been calling my DS's principal every three weeks trying to get him placed into a resource language arts class because he is not learning anything in the regular ed class. He just sits there lost and is barely able to pass. In Feb he got an F on his report card, pulled it up to a D by progress reports, and now has an F again. The principal is retiring this year and I believe he is just letting things go untill then. Yesterday Dan went for some extra help with the teacher he will have for next years language arts class. After trying to help him for a while she says "you dont have any idea how to do this do you?" She told him she is going to talk to the principal about him not being able to do the work. Gee I wonder if he will listen to her anymore than he has been listening to me. This is what I have been saying for 5 months now. I hope the new principal will listen to me. I know who she will be, but do not want to bother her yet because she will not take over the principal job untill july. grrrrrrrrr. Why do people not listen to us? We know our kids better than anyone.

Maybe the principal thinks that since he is almost done, he shouldn't have to worry about it.....that how our super was to a point.
Good luck, but maybe if he is hearing it from someone other than you, he'll take something into consideration.
Here's to hoping Kaiti

Well I talked to the principal. He told me he talked to DS teachers and they decided to push him harder instead of holding him back in language arts. HELLO! he needs more help than just pushing him harder. That wont work if he dosent understand the work. He has not learned anything in 2 years and they want to push harder?! What will that do besides making him more frustrated. The principal is going to talk to the teachers again. He better do something or they will get tired of hearing from me. I will camp out in his office if I need to.

Vickilyn Camp on You have every right to do that, if they dont get the picture, after all they are the theacher´s, they should know how he´s learning. Mayby you have to "push little harde" and give them deep input of adhd and learning disabilitie´s if they dont know ;D I bet they´ll remember after that ;D Good luck!!! Marja

vickilyn, take your broom and pointy hat and march yourself (or fly ;D) to that school and INSIST that they do as you request. Tell them you aren't leaving until you have documentation that he will be placed where you want. By law (at least where I am) they cannot keep him in a class that you don't want him in.
I had Cami removed from Advanced Lang Arts earlier this year because she was having so much trouble keeping up. It was a LOT of writing.
How much longer do you have until school is out for the year?

Skip the principal, call the main district office and ask for the FERPA officer.. that'll turn heads.. then start a request for his records.. check out www.tourettesyndrome.net there is a parent tutorial that has lots of nice request letters in just enough legalize language that it really gets noticed!!! If the principal is retiring and unresponsive you have no choice go over his head! Denise
