Honey was supposed to have his home visit today from the school. They had to cancel b/c one of his Special Ed teachers had to stay home with her sick kids.
I couldn't take the anticipation any longer so I got his teacher to talk about some of the things on the phone with me. She said she is not the expert on this stuff and that was why she was reluctant.
They are going to send home the consent forms to start some of his testing. They are starting with IQ, and then some development things and then speech again.
Some areas have really improved, but others are still not improving at all. They are concerned about his motor skills and also feel that there is a processing problem of some sort with his speech and ability to rationalize at an age approiate level.
She also cautioned me that she can see he is starting to pick on on it that he is verbally behind the others so we must be very careful how we handle any testing and further therapies. She said that kids do get their self esteem hurt when they think they are not as smart as the other kids.
She also said that there are areas that he is definately doing better than others in. They include more black and white subjects. Honey loves his routines and shcedules so he will go on to "real" kindergarten net year b/c we agree he needs the structure.
Now we have to reschdeule the home visit, but at least we have a start.

Don't ya hate it when things are thrown for a loop? Sorry to hear about the home visit. At least you had a detailed conversation with the teacher. One thing about the speech, make sure you don't hollor about it at home. You seem like the most patient person in the world and I really can't see you holloring, but if he sees your patience, he knows what is truly important. He might have a time with others, but if he knows that he can do it at home, that will give him more self confidence. When you say motor skills, is it the large motor coordination or the small motor manipulation like with his hands. Mikey has a terrible time with writing, and he is finally getting the hang of actual skipping, now he skips all over the place instead of running Keeping you in my thoughts Kaiti

Thanks Linda... Kaiti, It is both his fine and gross motor skills. The big ones are things like writing, well not really writing, but holding the pencil correctly, honestly, it looks painful when he tries to write. The other things are snaps and zips on pants and clothes, he still needs to have the teacher help him get his pants closed up after bathroom breaks. Things like buttons are also really hard for him. He did recently start using a fork (whoo hoo) so that has improved. I guess it just sucks that our kids have to deal with any of this garbage at all, but I guess that is what makes them all so darn special!! He may walk around with his pants open half the day, but he sure is cute doind it.. Becky BTW, his teacher also said that she doesn't want me to put him in elastic waisted pants or sweats. She is happy to help him and wants to make sure he gets practice with those little fingers and doesn't realize it. She is SO AMESOME!!
