Yesterday, my DS brought home paperwork for next year. There was a questionairre on his learning style and a teacher request form at the end ( all of them optional). Unfortunately DS's teacher wasn't listed as a teacher next year. I am assuming that due to the budget cuts she will lose her job. I haven't gotten the paperwork from my DD's class yet, but hope that her teacher will be listed as a possible teacher for her. I'm just wondering if it is a good idea to keep the same teacher. I really like her, but maybe it's best to change. DD may work better with a new teacher. Would like others thoughts on this. Do you feel that an ADHD child would benefit more from switching teachers or keeping the same one? Does it all depend on the child/teacher/parent relationship?

Aimee This is a tough one, I started writing like, yeah of course it´s good... but then again... It´s good thing if the relationship is o´kay, but if they cant tolerate each other´s, then ofcourse switching a new one is better My son has to go to a new school for 3th grade, so it´s new school, new theacher and new glass-mate´s Let´s see how that goes I ´am not so keen on this but, nothing can be done With a really good one, it´s always sad to let go I hope you get some good new´s about theacher very soon Marja

it all depends on if you like the teacher this year I requested that DS get the same teacher next year it is an option this year here we have what they call cycles we have 3 cycles on for grade 1+2 cycle 2 for grade 3+4 ect... we have the option within the cycle.... but for the year after he will have a new teacher.... I would have hated that he keep the same teacher in 1st grade we where moving at the time so it was not problem so far he has had all different teachers because we moved when he whent from 1st grade to 2nd grade.... I think that with DS I like him to have the same teacher because she knows him and how he acts and how to deal with him... we know each other and it is working well she knows what I will accept and what I execpt out of him and her every new teacher it starts all over it is always a wast of time getting to know there students.... I am very happy that next year we dont have to start over

When sd was being held back in first grade, we thought about changing the teacher to at least sd a sense that she was "moving" like the other kids...
We elected to keep the same teacher and I am quite glad we did... The teacher changed a few things, and they have all been positive for my sd this year... We got lucky! Next year argh! who knows... Hope we get a good teacher though!

DD brought in her paperwork today. Her teacher will be teaching a 1/2 class. I do feel like we have a pretty good relationship between the three of us and am planning on requesting her teacher again. Just have to keep my fingers crossed that she gets her. I think it will be beneficial with our dx process too. Now if I can just figure out which teacher to request for DS.....

I'm a bit late jumping in, but I have to tell you that we've had the same teacher two years in a row on two different occasions for two different boys. (Got that? - If not, read it twice LOL) Both times were WONDERFUL, especially for the child who has the most severe ADHD. Because teacher and student already knew each other, they hit the ground running in the fall. Of course in both cases the teacher was terrific.
This isn't on topic, but we just realized yesterday that next year Ash will have one teacher that all three of his big brothers have had! I think that is cool.
