For 15 mins??? That's ridiculous! Were the buses running for that or was each parent on their own to get 'em there? YIKES! I thought our district was crazy!
We get out 6/14, then go back 8/31 (yes, they started the "before Labor Day" thing last year). It doesn't really help much, IMHO.
Our district does crazy things like giving the kids one day off and 3 1/2-days the week before Easter, then making them go to school Mon, Tues, Wed before Easter, and having Thurs, Fri, Mon off around Easter! This makes it just great so nobody can go away without the kids missing 3 full days of school, but they have nearly a week off the week BEFORE. We used to go to FL every Easter to visit grandma. Now we can't. Next year we might go anyway, even if they do miss 3 days of school - I get so irritated with the school district it's like nyah, nyah!! LOL...
Kris (looking forward to school's END!!)

Do any of you have to put up with the crap of going to school for an hour to pick up report cards? A school district closeby in Alabama does that. I have a couple coworkers whose kids are in this district. Their last day is only two hours long. Mostly they go to clean out everything and get their report cards. Their first day of school is the same. Long enough to go to each class in the middle and high school for about 15 minutes I think. And the busses do run those days. I think it's a total waste. Cami's school mails the last report card. Hers was in the box when we got home yesterday. She made it to 8th grade! ;)lol

Today was the last day for my kids. Of course my youngest who was suspended all last week went in and 10 minutes later was in trouble. Silly kid took one of those "poppers" with him (fireworks that just make noises when you pull the cord). Guess its a good thing it was the last day and they couldnt suspend him even longer.
At least we got good report cards. Oldest only has 1 B and that was from first quarter and youngest got A's in everything but health. Pretty good for a kid that missed 30 or so days this year.

And tell him he's lucky he doesn't go to a school in my district. He would have been suspended for the start of the next school year for bringing th popper thing.

I called the school and Jared ended up " having" to go..they wouldn't release his report card to me..they said if he didn't go they would just throw it away... That is what I call one last barb in my side just to irritate me ... I wont forget.. I thought that being his legal PARENT I actually had the right to collect his report card...I mean reeeally! I hope the big tornado bird drops a plopper on their rooftop! (their team name is tornados which is ludicrous when the town is constantly being slammed by tornados every other year or so )

I dont think they can just "throw it away". I know our school district keeps the cards at the school till the end of the week for parents to pick up, and after that, you can get them from the board office.
The teacher didnt tell the principal, she just took the small thing. I wouldnt have even known it was a firework thing if they hadnt told me. It is a little tiny cardboard tube on a string. Not even half the size of one of those tiny black cat firecrackers. Oh, and now that my son is covered under the IEP, he can only be suspended for a total of 10 days before they have to give him an at home aid or something of that sort.
