We just had ds11 tested in reading. His vocabulary is at a 2nd grade,4th month level & he is in 5th grade. At a meeting this morning, his speech teacher mentioned an earobics program. I went on-line to check it out & it seems very good.
Has anyone ever used this program & what were your results?
Thanks for any input, Laurie

Yes, it is very good, but it is very important to understand what the underlying problems are with his reading specifically. Is it phonemic awareness or is it that he has trouble with deriving meaning from what he reads or something else?
We used Earobics for my daughter's auditory processing problems and it did work nicely. After a few weeks, she did get tired of doing it.
One word of caution: make sure you get the right level of Earobics. We used step 2. But ask your speech and language person.
Good luck.

We have used both Earobics 1 and 2. They work on phonemic awareness, discriminating the difference on short vowel sounds, breaking words apart, blending them back together, auditory and visual memory. They are repetitive, but if your child has some auditory processing problems or needs phonological awareness training, it is a cheap option compared with other things out there. My child's speech path recommended them when we were pre K, and we worked with one, and have now moved to #2. From my experience, you'll need to reinforce to get cooperation after they have played it a little. But like I said, if it addresses your child's issues, it's well worth the $60 you'll spend.

Thank you both for your insight. Bri has an auditory processing deficiency. His phonetics & spelling are great.
It is the visual & auditory recall & comprehension that i beleive are the biggest problems. With this new information from the testing, his lack of knowledge of vocabulary words could play a huge part in his comprehension problems.
I thought it would be a good program for the summer. I want to keep him out of summer school for the first time. He definitely deserves a break from that.
His speech teacher said that it had to be used consistently to get the benefit from it.
I will look into it deeper now. Thanks again
