As Cami keeps pointing out ... "when will I use this junk when I'm older anyway? who care if I know the capital of Argentina, or how to get the square root of something? That's why some genius invented calculators!"
Who needs this ed-ju-ma-ca-tion junk anyhow?
Like some other genius once said "All I need to know I learned in kindergarten."

I know what you mean camismom, DS is studying sharks I dont get it... What will it give him to know that sharks have no bones where will he ever need this information unless he becaumes a marine biologist!!! and if so then he could learn it then.... I have to get DS tutored because our schools are teaching them about these things and forgetting the basics... he knows more about indians, dinasors and sharks just to name a few things spelling test consist of naming dinasors how about making them learn how to spell everyday works...
DS is in 3rd grade and yesterday he spelled "that" "thet" IMAGINE
not that I am any better mind you... but english is my 2nd language his 1st.

Report cards here came out day before yesterday. DS 10 got two A's and two B+'s. I was thrilled with his grades. I always am though. On the other hand, DD 6 didn't do so well. She is in 1st grade and here they give checks, check pluses, check minuses and AC (area of concern). Most everything she had checks except for effort and attitude. Those were check pluses. Then under the social part she had about five AC's. Guess I need to contact the teacher and set up a conference.

Well, much to my surprise, she pulled it off again. She made all A's and B's. This child NEVER studies, but somehow always manages to get by. Hope it continues... ;D One thing that bugged me though was a couple comments her science teacher had on there. He was the main one actig like a butt when we had her 504 conferance, and the one that made the dergoatory comments about ADHD and clearly resents having to make accomadations for her. Anyway, she mad a B in his class, yet her listed "incomplete work" ( how did she make a B then??) and "modified curriculum" (what the heck is that supposed to mean? Is that his stab at her for having a 504?). Oh well, be a butt if you want. She made honor roll and I'm proud! She's a living example that having ADHD isn't an automatic set up for failure.

Got Katie's progress report...she has two D's but no F's this time! I'll join in as the prayer for grades continues, that maybe she'll only have to repeat the first semester of Pre-Algebra instaed of the whole year.

Just as a little reassurance to anyone: In high school geometry I got the following: D D F F I needed at least a D on the final just to pass, so I handed in my final and asked the teacher to go to the guidance office to get info for summer school. She told me to not jump the gun and graded my final right then and there. I got a C..... I still don't understand geometry, but I got a c on the final, so I amazingly enough passed Kaiti
