DS had such a good week I am sooooo proud of him and made ahuge deal about it stuck the award on the fridge.... ;D ;D ;D
but one thing is bothering me about one of his teachers... she gives stars on spelling test only if they have no mistakes and this bothers me because for DS he works so hard and wants it so badly but can never get no mistakes. I feel it is so unfair that she would only recognize the effort some kids have to make to even come close... Ds usualy get 2 maybe 3 mistakes and this is with alot of studying, I am afaid to offend her if I mention it. would you? I konw want to step on her feet.

to your son!!! And I would mention to the teacher about the star stickers... I think kids arent being appreciated for their improvement because they are still behind the other kids, and yes I think it is unfair... When we do behavior modification we reward the good behavior... Sd has the word computer written down, if she is bad she gets one letter taken away... Then at end of the day the letters she has left are 5 min computer time each.... So she does lose some letter, but is still being rewarded for being MOSTLY good... Good luck

mom2tj -
In my dd's 3rd grade class, the teacher gives candy to only those who got a 100 on the test. That's really terrible I think. It sends the wrong message to almost the entire class!

I agree, if stickers are going to be given out everyone should get one. At least one that says good effort or nice improvement.
I don't know if I would say anything to the teacher, I would probably want to but be too chicken. I would probably buy a pack of my own star stickers and put them on for him when he gets home. At least then someone notices.
Good for him!!!

IDEA!! Maybe you could buy some stickers saying nice improvment, and good effort as honeysmom suggest, but give them to the teacher for your son specific?? Would that work!
I fear if you put them on at home they wont feel as special to your son.... Good luck whatever you do though!!

I would mention it to the teacher. Maybe she could even just slip him a star some time when he has fewer mistakes. Some teachers are stuck in how they do things, but I think most understand when a child needs a little something for self-esteem.
My son's teacher puts a star on everything a child finishes and gently writes in corrections.
And congrats for the Star of the Week!
