Update on this: Due to parental complaints (I guess it did work afterall : , the board voted against the July 30th calendar, but went with the one that starts the very next week. First day of school will be August 4th. Oh well, at least they get the whole month of July! Take care!

camismom, I hate to say this, but the squeeky wheel gets the oil. I really do hate to say that since I try to look at as much of things as I can. I'm glad it was at least pushed back.
Say again, what was the reasoning for the change in the calendar to begin with? I know that some places are trying all year and stuff like that, but as a whole, did someone just change it to change it???
That happened at our school.. THANK GOD HE IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Committee this, report that, stupid stuff to "justify" that he was "doing his job".. Well, he ain't "doing his job" if 3/4 of the teachers want to quit because he is such an arrogant SOB.
Funny thing about it, he didn't know that SACC had it's own e-mail.. He created a personal one for me and the assistant director, (probably to talk about the program behind my back). When he was told SACC already had one, he shut up and said after a few seconds that there might be personal stuff that was needed to get to each of us. DUH, I am the only one to check the e-mail, and the only stuff we get for the most part is what ever everybody else sends out for a school wide thing.
Oh.,I'm sorry for the rant, had to get that off my chest, been bugging me too long Kaiti

In the guidance office in Honey's school there are 2 offices and a Secretary out front. All 3 of them have a list hanging up with who has what type of IEP or 504. They also have certain accomodations highlighted! I could not beleive that they just left it hanging out there for the public to view. I asked about it when we were making Honey's IEP and they said that there are no rules on it. I told them not to hang up Honey's. (as far as I know they just take it down before we come in) I just don't think it is necessary. If that is the case we should hang up everyone's report cards also for a public viewing.
I am glad that they pushed back the school start date, but August 4th still seems so early. I cannot imagine it.

Honeysmom/Becky,
That IEP for public viewing would get me going too!
As far as the calendar, when you think about it it's only 3 days later! But they ave started around the first of August for the last several years now so I guess they are used to it!

I just read in the paper that some state or another is going to stop publishing honor roll lists, due to something dealing with private records and education.
It said something like Jane getting on the 1st honors list, well, obviuosly everyone knows she got all A's. So since everyone knows what grades she has it goes against privacy issues.
What next, ban the obits since somepeople might not what all of the kins names published. Or better yet, the sports section, how else do you think the bookies run the numbers?
Dumb Dumb Dumb. Dumber, the people with the highlighted info hanging in front of them. Kaiti

Here's my penny's worth- Most teachers are not in the profession because of the money-entry level teachers salary is such that they can qualify for food stamps. We expect them to control and maintain order over 22-30 children whom they know nothing about and who all come from different backgrounds and who all have different learning levels. We expect them to boost moral, make each child feel important, work with each child's individual strengths and weaknesses. We expect them to know about every learning disorder their is to mankind and how to handle each child that has it. We expect them to send weekly if not daily reports home on how our children are doing. We expect them to teach cooperation, acceptance, manners, morals, reading, writing, math, sex education, history, science, challange our children's creativity, work on pennmanship, prevent sexual harrassament, teach the importance of a healthy diet and exercise, keep our children interested in learning, supervise 100's of children on a playground, take care of our sick children, provide after school care for parents who can't pick their children up on time, in some cases change wet clothes, provide warm clothes in case a parent forgets to send mittens on a winters day, make sure each child gets a good breakfast and lunch, provide a snack (many times which they pay for themselves), be party coordinators for special holidays, have a desk full of extra pencils, crayons, paper, scissors, rulers, kleenex, determine when a child needs to go home due to illness, on early release days because of inclement weather call all parents to make sure "Johnny" has somewhere to go, greet our children with a smile, prepare projects and grade papers on their own time, listen to parents complain that they get to much time off and then we expect them to do all this without complaining, being human, making any mistakes, make any parent angry and most of all our government tells them they must do all of this without praying! I am surprised we have any teachers at all! AMEN!
