Her papers and test scores had improved tramendously from f's to at least c's and b's. Owe ya she's in first grade. She reads everything now from books to labels to signs on the highway etc. We'll report cards came home friday. She had all d's and f's Math d- Reading f Spelling d English went from an n to a u. Her AR test scores are always 80 or higher how can she have an f in reading? My husband and I just cant understand. What do they expect from a first grader her to read shakespear( i hope i spelled that right lol) O.K. I just needed to vent this realy upset me and it did my dd to.

It is so frustrating isn't it?! I think it's hard because in my ds case (2nd grade), you can miss half of the points on a reading paper because you don't follow the directions (i.e. circle the correct answer and write it on the line; if you do just one of those you miss the whole thing, even though you actually know the correct answer.) Or if you have a reading test, and have trouble with visual organization, even though you can read at grade level you might miss the answers. So your daughter very well may be doing fine in reading but is getting penalized for other deficits that impact on her ability to demonstrate her reading skill the way the teacher wants. I am trying to get some accomodations now to address this issue with my son. It's so good that your daughter is showing improvement--I hope she doesn't find the grades too discouraging.

That does not make any sense. If she was doing so well, then why did she get d's and f's? I think I would, no, I know I would call the school and find out what is going on. I would also ask them why you were not contacted if there was such a change in her grades. I would also let her know that if she truly was not working up to par, then she should have told you so you could've reported that correctly to the doctor. It does no good to tell the doc's that her grades are great if they are not. That did not help you or her at all. That is really too bad. I hope this is the time of year your school does conferneces!! Good Luck!! Becky

thanks for the replies. The school is in the process of checking her for LDs. Which I havent heard anything about in a while. I have to call the school and set up a conference with her teacher. I would like to have my husband with me at this conference. It's seams like the teacher , the principal, and the counsler try to steamroll over me. But they wont try that crap with my husband. He works construction and is hardly ever off unless it raining and around Alabama you cant plan ur day on what the weather man says. lol AS for dd grades i wasnt expecting all A's. Low C's at least and thats bassing it on the graded papers I've been sighning off on. So this time i have made my own grade book. Every week dd brings home her graded tests from the week before Sp, Rdg, Math, Eng, & Hdwtg. I'm gona start writting these scores down in my little grade book every week and I'll be the judge of what her grades should look like! I think alot of our adhd kids grades are based on thier behavior and thats not right. They should be graded on thier ability not the way they act! Thanks again for listening ;D

When my daughter, now 9, was in 1st grade, they used to give them timed math tests for addition and subtraction, 40 problems in 4 minutes. There were 12 levels. You had to get ALL of the problems right in order to move to the next level. My daughter would do a sheet and miss maybe 2 or 3. So, she'd have to take that test over before she could move to the next one. She'd take the test over and miss a DIFFERENT 2 or 3, these she'd gotten RIGHT on the previous test. So, she'd have to take the test AGAIN. Then, she'd miss ANOTHER 2 or 3. It was driving us all crazy. This was ADHD at its best but I didn't know it at the time. The teacher didn't understand either. It just didn't make sense. She knew her math facts pretty well. But her attention span prevented her from showing it. I think that happens an awful lot. Perhaps that's what's going with your child?

;D Hi, My childs teacher keeps me VERY informed of her progress. We receive in the mail a PINK slip if they are making a D or F in any subject about a MONTH before report cards go out. That way there's a chance to bring up that grade. I would have THOUGHT the school teacher would have sent home a few notes with her papers if she KNEW your child was getting POOR scores on WHATEVER material? I would SURE look into that end of it. A parent has NO idea what's going on when they aren't informing a parent. My child is now looking into a LD class for hopefully NEXT year. She's ALWAYS had trouble with everything in school when it comes to TESTS AND MEMORZATION!!!! Her reading is a STRUGGLE!! I pushed her through 1st grade and doing that in 2nd but 3RD grade is going to be another story!! 3rd grade is such a turning point!! It GOOD that your looking into Special Ed/LD/Resource classes NOW! Your child will greatly beniff from it! I should have done it in 1st grade but I was still HOPING she would improve!! Her report card was 4 C's and 2 B's but that was with a TON OF WORK at HOME!!!! I can't keep up that pace for her in 3rd grade!! Otherwise she would be failing!! Her assetments score was 84 which in my mind is BELOW average. Average is 100 or hopfully BETTER!! That's those state testing they do. I don't know if she'll do summer school or not?? They've not talked to me as of yet. Well, GOOD LUCK!! It's A PAIN to go through the process of Special Ed but hopefully will beniff her in the long run. It's a LONG process to get special Ed services going!!! I'm still waiting to get that for her and they started in Sept! [shadow=purple,left,300]MADISON[/shadow]

We have been battling this for 5 years. Come to find out that my 10yo son has reading deficiencies & auditory processing deficiencies. So this affects all lectures & reading. It also affects how he takes his tests. In his 504, I have asked that he take his test with the rest of the class. Then an aid or another teacher must read to him all the questions that he got wrong. If he answers correctly, then he would get credit for it. This, at least, gives him a 50-50 chance to show what he does know.
Now, here it is with half the school year gone & I'm still training the teachers on how to test him!!
